Random Dozen

Joining Linda for this weeks edition of Random Dozen

1. Do you prefer even or odd numbers? Any particular reason.

Usually it’s odd. Everything I have ever read about landscape design and even interior design usually advise grouping in odd numbers. In my yard I have found this to be true, I am usually happier with an arrangement of plantings when there is an odd number of what ever I am planting.

2. On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being "not at all" and 10 being Carly Simon-worthy, how vain are you?

Maybe a three. On the average day I wear no make up and I am even considering letting my hair go back to it’s natural color. I am also accessory challenged. I have such a difficult time putting an outfit together that it just stressed me out to no end. I think I may have even shared this before, but I would be totally happy to have seven pairs of jeans and seven matching sweaters or tops and have that be my wardrobe.

3. Among these Irish stereotypes, with which do you identify most closely? Talkative, Proud, Inquisitive, Love to party, Hot-tempered

Probably talkative with an underlying smattering of inquisitiveness. I don't know many women who don't consider talking the best form of communication. I am also curious, I am not afraid to try new things (sorta, no cliff diving for me thank you very much) and I love learning new things.

4. How lucky do you consider yourself?

I don't know that I consider how luck I am on a daily basis. I ponder more on how God works in my life and looking at the blessings and the challenges. But I will admit to doing the happy dance when I peel of the sticker and find a 30% off coupon from Kohl’s or I come home from Goodwill with a real barging. I like that kinda luck!

5. What is the subject of your favorite post that you've written?

Hands down my favorite posts come from my own life lessons. When I forget my wallet, when I have a hormonal break from reality or when I have an encounter with L.E.S.P. However I do enjoy recounting my travels and sharing all my adventures with y’all. Who can choose, I love getting into God’s word and tossing that out there as well!

6. Describe March weather where you live in three words.

Only three…

cold in-between warm!

7. How apt are you at detecting blarney when you hear it? (Smooth talk, flattery)

I give myself an 8 may be pushing towards a 10. I am usually very intuitive at detecting truth, case in point, I knew John Edwards was a liar the moment I laid eyes on him. Go figure!

8. How "green" are you, environmentally speaking?

On a scale of 1 to 10 I’d give myself an 8 maybe. I recycle a lot. No batteries in the trash for me. I am totally bummed that they don’t take Styrofoam curbside. It really bugs me to toss it in the trash. I take my plastic grocery bags back to the store and I am diligently trying to get in the habit of remembering my re-usable shopping bags. I always try to donate household items to various charities instead of just throwing them away. I tried to switch to more environmentally friend packaging, you know the cleaning products that you buy the empty bottle. They give you a tiny bottle of concentrated cleaning solution and then you fill your bottle up with water when you get it home and then add the concentrate. I thought that was way cool. However I have yet to find the refills in the stores. I’ve been looking for months. I did find a really good recipe for window cleaner online that works wonders and it is totally environmentally friendly (follow the previous link, I use #3, works like  charm!!)

9. What is your favorite song this week?

Alas! I know that music is a big part of some folks daily life. However for as much as I enjoy music, I just don’t pay attention to it. When I am in the car by myself I usually have it tuned to talk radio or it is off. Silence is golden!

I think there may be some bias that motivates me in this area. Having lived through the very loud and very wall shaking years having a teenage musician in the house, I used to crave the peace and quiet. Electric guitars and amplifiers equals throbbing walls and multiple trips up the stars asking him to turn it down. Now with a second teenager in the car with me I am forced to listed to actual music on the radio. Yes I know that I could say no but in what I consider a huge act of paternal sacrifice I usually respond in the affirmative when she asks to change the station. I have learned to tone it out. I do however have to listed to some if it from time to time for content. I draw the line at songs that promote inappropriate behavior the station gets switched ASAP, wow that was a big bunny trial.

Finally to answer the question: I don't have a favorite song on the radio this week, and I will go so far to say that they don't even play my favorite songs on the radio. Find me a station that plays classic musical songs and I’m there. One of the movie channels has been showing Guys and Dolls and I am in heaven. I DVR’ed it and I have been enjoying it on a regular basis. It just makes me smile!!!!!

Ya want my favs this week well here they are!

It’s Nicely Nicely for me every time! These are the songs that my children got in the middle of the night when they would wake up with a bad dream or tummy ache. How many chorus’ of “I got the horse right here” and “I'm gonna wash that man right outta my hair” did I sing in the wee hours, the world may never know. I caught myself doing it with my granddaughter the other day as well. The more things change the more they stay the same, and I am ok with that!

10. You are walking along and see a coin on the ground. What denomination does it have to be before you will stop to pick it up?

A penny!

11. Complete the sentence: "Every time I look outside my window ...."

Every time I look outside my window I am checking to see where the dog is and what part of my yard he is currently digging up!

12. What was the #1 song on the day you were born? See this site to find out.

Mr Blue - The Fleetwoods…and I have no idea who this is or the song either.

Well that’s it for this weeks Random Dozen.

Blessing Y’all and have a great rest of the week!

I can identify with checking to see what part of the yard the dog dug up!!! It's also nice to "meet" another person who is not "so" concerned with make up or wardrobe...Nice to "meet" you! I do know the song Mr. Blue, but don't remember it from when it was popular...
Enjoyed your answers!

I just had to go and read the hormonal post right away. It was so good. You had me totally cracking right up. Mostly because I can oh, so relate!
So enjoyed stopping by your blog today. I'm just joining the Random Dozen and can already tell it's going to be a lot of fun. I'm with you on the music, my kids (30 & 33) call it "elevator music." I listen to it all day long and love it. So soothing!

Oh man, I read your lizard story. It cracked me up! I love it when you said, "Crisis averted and a lizard life spared."

I love to drive with the radio off too. Not only is silence golden, but a great blogpost idea can come when it's quiet!
