I’ve been thinking….

Which for me can be a bit dangerous. However with my fluctuating hormonal state I have to take the functional brain activity when I can get it. The other day at the pottery studio we were talking, that is not unusual, we are always chattering about all sorts of things, however one of our newest Pottery Peep’s commented on a picture I had posted on Facebook of my latest painting. She and I had been friend for years but apparently it had never come up in conversation “I had no idea you were an artist!” she said. There are things that may be, at times, to personal to share about ones self for fear that you place your heart out there for all the world to see. Plus sometime I just think the whole thing is just not noteworthy enough to bring up in conversation. Also at the age I am I am finding that I am less and less concerned of what other folks think of me, however I am a bit more sensitive where my creative endeavors are concerned. It is sort of like wanting to please your favorite a...

Project 365 ~ Week 46: Crocheting, painting and pottery….it was a good week!

Image
Good Morning, or afternoon depending on what time you pop over. It’s very early for me. The family is still sleeping and I am waiting for the coffee to finish brewing. It’s officially cold here. I woke several times last nigh to see the temps outside fall below freezing. Well it was a good week for me, lost of time to do things I wanted to do, the hubs was out of town again so I had a mini housework vacation. I was in the zone with a lot of creative juices flowing, who knows were that came from….but I have a theory. You can click here to ready my highly scientific reasoning…NOT! I got almost a picture every day this week…not to bad! Let’s get at it! Sunday, October 11 My fall garden is bursting with lettuce and my remaining peppers are still doing very well. I love watching the peppers turn from green to red! I finished another Homespun Shawl. I have started using the traditional granny square pattern. It comes together very quickly and the simplicity of the concentric squares...

Acrylic on Canvas #2 ~ Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco

Image
A long, long time ago in a land far far away an old woman picked up a paint brush….. For my second foray into painting I have chosen a landscape I took while we vacationed in San Francisco. This picture was taken at Golden Gate Park in the Japanese Tea Garden. It was one of the most beautiful gardens I have seen in a very long time. The tranquil beauty and Japanese simplicity was stunning. October 2, 2010 I have found that if I do a few preliminary sketches first then I have a better sense of what the focal point of the painting needs to be. I also took the time to make a grid, which I did not do last time. I really regretted not taking the time to do this. My perspective suffered and there were many times as I painted over certain parts of my last painting that I whished I had taken the time to get my perspective right before diving in. October 26, 2010 I was finally able to transfer my grid to my canvas and get the main structure of the painting sketched out!   Decembe...

Tivoli ~ Acrylic on Canvas #1: My first painting in probably 14 years!

Image
In June of 2007 we took a vacation to Copenhagen. My husband had been in Sweden for several months for training for his new job and part of the agreement for him begin away for so long was that the company would bring his family over to visit him. After many weeks of discussion we decide upon meeting in a central location from where he was staying for his training, which ended up to be Copenhagen. I took so many beautiful pictures from that trip and I wanted to pick something that would not be to difficult to paint. I did not want to start with something hard like buildings or faces, they are a bit on the high end of the difficulty factor for just starting back with something you have not done in a very long time, and it has been a really long time since I picked up a paint brush. I remember having thoughts when my children were very little. All I wanted was a few moments to myself. When they are little they want to help mommy paint and then you end up supervising to make sure they a...
