Project 365 ~ Week 5: It was a good week with the clay y’all!

Image
We had some extreme weather, I made an awesome chocolate cake and our last glaze firing was full of lots of happy results! Monday, January 28 Overall I was very happy with this coffee cup, there is a slight boo boo on the other side due to an operator error when I glazed it but live and learn is the phrase for the day where me and the clay are concerned…. I call these glaze buggers…I am sure there is a technical pottery term but bugger works for me! Tuesday, January 29 Skoots1mom posted a recipe on her FB page for a vinegar cake, it was so simple that I had to try it. You can be sure I will be keeping this one around for a long time. The amazing thing is that the recipe required absolutely no eggs! It is just your simple every day pantry ingredient, and most of the time we all have them in our pantry all the time, so the next time you need a super quick desert idea….my suggestion is a vinegar cake. It was awesome. Click here for the recipe….. Cooks note, I replaced the wa...

Project 365 ~ Week 42

I kept it kind of simple thins week. With all the activity of the sale this past weekend not to mention all the work we did leading up to the sale I needed a small break and a rest. So here is my week! No pictures on Sunday, October 14 Monday, October 15 I HATE to sew, but I am glad that I have a working knowledge of how to sew. I also love Skoots1mom as my Girlchild has benefitted from many many bags of clothing that her girl no longer could wear. This is the renovations of a previously long dress that the girlchild had been turning her nose up at for some time. It was, in her defense a bit too large so it required a good bit of taking in down the side and of course we shorted to just above the knee. This is now her new orchestra concert dress. Best of all I only had to invest a few short minutes of my time to get it up and running and there was no outlay of cash involved! Tuesday, October 16 After I spent all that time getting all the crud off my flat top griddle, it now loo...

Project 365 ~ Week 40:

Image
Hey There Y’all! Here is my week. Sunday, September 30 Sometime I can be a bit of a night owl. The curse of the fluctuating hormones. I found myself unable to sleep Saturday evening so I thought maybe a nice warm shower would help. Just call me graceful! I have a bathroom rug just outside my shower so normally I can maneuver myself from the shower to the closet with out incident. However the evil bathroom fairies chose to manipulate the bathroom space time continuum and I placed one foot down on the bathroom rug and with the other I stepped off onto the floor. WHAM! The next thing I knew there I was in a heap of wet towel and 52 year old limbs splayed out on my bathroom floor. Now remember that it’s after midnight, the Hub's is soundly snoring in the bed and I am laying on the bathroom floor…visions of the commercial “Help! I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!” are running through my head. I am surprised the loud thumb didn't wake the hubs from his sleep but he managed to slumber...

Project 365 ~ Week 11: I can’t believe it has been three years…

Monday, March 12 I bought on of these on Monday. I am still learning about all the features this has. However It has gone off several times this week. I can tell you that when it does go off it will defiantly get your attention. Especially if you are not prepared for a shrill blast to go off. Talk about jumping out of your skin. I think there may be a way to make it not be so loud but then doesn't thank kind of defeat the purpose.   As well as being prepared for the next wave of sever weather to come through I am stocked up on birthday cake supplies. Seeing as there is a birthday cake in my future later in the week this is a good thing. Tuesday, March 13 Muffinhead woke up to thunder and heavy rain. We had to go watch for a few minute at the window to assure ourselves that everything was ok and the rain was going to stay outside. Grandma: “Good morning sleepyhead.” Muffinhead hears the thunder: “It’s raining in my bedroom.” Grandma: “No! It’s raining outside!” Thursday...

Well I swept up the sugar that was all over my kitchen floor. I was thankful that my water crisis was only a crisis in my over worked hormonal imagination. I ended the day on an up note! I saw Ann Burrell on Secrets of a Restaurant Chef the other day. She was making a pot of chicken noodle soup and she made a big pan of Focaccia Bread. For the spelling challenged which is me I have missed spelled focaccia almost ever time I type it out…. Y’all know me and bread. It looked simple enough and well the next thing you know I was asking my favorite question…. How Hard Could It Be? Y’all check out the recipe here ! It was super easy and if I do say so myself it was awesome! Every time I try a new recipe I have learned to follow the recipe to the letter the first time and then once I have it figure out then I can begin any tweaking I might feel necessary The bread was awesome……but I think any recipe that calls for one full cup of olive oil stands a really good chance of being really...

The Christmas Day Sticky Bun Disaster….an epic failure and I’m not the only one out there!

Image
Well in hindsight I think I may adopt the no new recipe’s during the holidays rule that Paula advocates. Live and learn. All I can say is that I feel a bit vindicated when I scrolled through the reviews of the recipe and found several very negative comments Needless to say I had a a good laugh at this comment about this recipe being a fire hazard……..had I read the first comment listed below I may have thought twice about putting my family and Christmas all together in jeopardy for the sake of a sticky bun. Copied straight from the Food Network Website: “Fire hazard.. do not make. I followed this recipe exactly.. 400 degrees for 30 minutes. 15 minutes into the baking the brown sugar and butter was scorched and the whole house was filled with smoke. If I were you I would not make this unless the oven temperature is reconsidered. A epic failure of a recipe.” In any event I followed the direction exactly! My first indicator that things were not going well was that the puff pastry seeme...
