If you can’t say anything nice…..

Image
then don’t say nothing at all I am taking a break from my bible study prep for my Wednesday class, my coffee maker has a flashing red light on it indicating that I need to run a cleaning cycle, the refrigerator needs to get a good cleaning out, the dog needs to go to the vet to get his nails trimmed, I need to take the car to the shop for an oil change and tire rotation and the bathrooms need to be cleaned. So I have decided that rather than attending to all those wonderfully simulating situations I have opted to make a latte and work on a blog post. Never let it be said that I can not place all things in there proper perspective when really pushed to the edge. I had a situation happen this morning, hence the title of my post! If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say nothing at all, well this morning I made a error in judgment. Not a long lasting error and one that was easily corrected but still if did get me to thinking about the true nature of people. It really was a very s...

Opinion’s Please

I came home from our Wednesday Night Supper last night and my husband was sitting in his recliner multi-tasking. Surfing the web with his laptop and watching Man VS Wild on Discovery. Now I am not a huge fan of reality television, but my husband is a discovery/history channel junkie. He loves all those documentaries on these channels. I wouldn't necessarily call Man VS Wild a documentary, it really is in my opinion a reality show. In last nights show Bear Grylls is stranded on a deserted island and he is attempting to survive and make it off the island alive. If your not familiar with the show he places himself in survival situations and due to his training in the military he has a wealth of knowledge that he uses to stay alive. Well last night as I sat multitasking with my laptop as well, you all are far more entertaining then the ordinary nightly television fair but I was from time to time glancing up at the television. So here is my question, where do you draw the line? ...

Here is a question for you!

How much time do you spend blogging? How many blog’s do you follow? Do you read every blog you follow every day? Do you use your Google reader or Blogroll to follow a blog? I just counted. The number of blog’s in my blog roll is 66 the number of blog’s in my Google reader is 26. All of the blog’s in my Google reader are in my blogroll. If I unfollow someone's blog from Google reader but still keep them in my blogroll is that rude? You know us southern girls, it’s all about  being polite! With 66 blog in my blog roll I just can’t get to every one every day. I give my blog roll a once over in the morning and pick the post titles that jump out at me. If I have a boat load of time on my hands and have nothing else pressing I will from time to time try to make it down the entire list but that hardly ever happens. Do y’all use your Google reader, because I just don’t. I find it so much easier to put a new blog I find in my blog roll and then track that blog from there. How ...

A plague upon me!

Image
t’s the attack of the mutant cucumber’s. One day they were lush and green and abundant and then a plague of unknown origins, at least in my limited horticultural experience, has visited my tiny little patch of produce. See the tiny little mutant tucked away in amongst all the destruction. It has not spared my sweet green peppers either! Not for the fain of heart. One day (well maybe a week) they were normal and then this, squat kind of yellow unattractive looking thing! Sing with me… One (or five) of these things is not like the other…. One (or five) of these thing just doesn't belong… Garden advice needed!!!! Oh a plague upon me, a plague upon me! Blessing (or weeping and gnashing of teeth!) Robin A.K.A. The Bewildered Gardner

Ask me what I’m doing right now????

Come on, come on, ask me!!!!! I am sitting in my living room drinking my morning coffee looking at my freshly shampooed carpet. Now you may ask why is this noteworthy or exceptional? Under ordinary circumstances quiet possibly not remarkable in any way, however as of last night my house has now been teleported to an alternate universe. You may wonder how and why my home has now made an address change to an alternate universe. Here’s how!  My son, who is now living on his own (if that is what you want to call it) came to my home last night and vacuumed my living room and then shampooed my carpet. Let’s let this sink in a bit. I have this dark and scary vision in my head, not to mention a very real and unpleasant memory of the odor assaulting my nostrils as I would ascend the stairs to his room. Upon reaching the top of the stairs I would have to kick a path through the debris which covered his bedroom floor.  Images of the town dump, seagulls darting in and out over the la...

What is your favorite ornament?

Before we get to the incredibly Rocket Scientists portion of this blog, I am officially launching my first Mr. Linky opportunity for all to participate in, woo hoooo. I wanted to give you all a glimpse into no doubt what has happen and is happening all over the world. Our homes are taken from a state of clutter and chaos as we unpack and unwrapped all the decorations and begin the transformation. So here goes. The Before................................................... The After......................................... Now for the Rocket Scientist portion of this post! I am so impressed with myself for figuring this out, you all will have to forgive me. I am sure (I hope) it will wear off quickly! So what is your favorite ornament? I shared with you in a previous post abut my favorite Christmas ornaments. We all have them, the ones made by tiny hands with glitter construction paper and lots of glue. I wanted to share with you my most precious Christmas ornaments. The first one was ma...

What is it about the holidays?

Image
I was thinking this morning about how the transformation that happens in my home after thanksgiving? It is a slow gradual process as the tree gets put up and the decorations get put on. I love unwrapping all my precious homemade ornaments and finding just the right spot to place then on the tree. One of my favorites is a small baby Jesus ornament that my son made when he was a very little boy. It is made with Popsicle sticks and a peanut wrapped up in a small piece of blue cloth, Baby Jesus in the Manger, it is the sweetest ornament and quite possible my favorite. (I will post a picture of the ornament as soon as I come across it, all the ornaments are still waiting to be unboxed) But as I was standing in my kitchen pouring my coffee I thought to myself that today is the day that I will make the switch. I will take all my Christmas coffee mugs down from their shelf and put all my normal everyday coffee cups away. This for me will then signal the beginning of the holidays. It is such sm...

How do I feel about being 49?

It is amazing the difference perspective brings to my life. When I think of my life and where I am at the ripe old age of 49. I see so many things that are surprising. I thought that the number 50 would bother me, but as I step into the year that I will draw near to this milestone I find that I am not as bothered by this approaching landmark as I thought I would be. The grey hairs kind of bug me at times, but not enough to exert the time, energy and expense to get rid of them. A blogging friend of mine called them credentials, Wow! I like that!! They aren’t grey hair or wrinkles they are credentials, have mercy!!!! The aches and pains are an inconvenience, but I have the perspective to recognize that they are minor in comparison to other physical health issues of some others that I know. The short term memory loss, (now what was I saying, why did I come in here and why are my car keys in the freezer?) this can be a blessing as it clears away the mind and allows me to simply lets go of ...

Anticipating the Holidays

Image
It’s in the air, the anticipation, the preparation, and the smells from the kitchen. I have a cake cooling on the counter, a pan of brownies in the oven, a pot of green beans in the crock pot and there are plans for homemade Mac and Cheese later. With all this busyness the payoff is the gathering tomorrow at my sister’s house for our family thanksgiving. In my blog hopping this morning there was a very similar theme going on. It seems that as the holidays grow nearer our thoughts are more focused on the things to come then the things of today. I know for myself with all the turmoil on the nightly news who would not want to place all their attention on sweet potato soufflé and looking for the perfect stuffing recipe. With Thanksgiving just around the corner I am thinking about my life and all that I am thankful for. It at times is difficult to set aside the other aspect of life that at times scream louder then the praises, yet the wonderful thing about anticipation and preparation is t...

Yes or No??????

Do the little scrolly things behind the text in the post bug you????????

Is there really such a thing as a necessary evil?

Having further restrained myself from actually setting my laptop on fire, my technical issues have been problematic. I am ceasing the moment to post while the planet are aligned properly and the gremlins hiding under my living room sofa are sleeping and all is well with my computer (for the millisecond). I was considering the term necessary evil the other day and I can find no better example than our reliance on technology. While our computer, cell phones, PDA’s, pocket PC’s and Blackberries all are wonderful tools, they also have the ability to suck the very life out of your day if they are not working properly. While being able to access the internet brings wonderful blog’s and new insight into how God is working it also is the doorway to the vilest filth imaginable. It’s about balance and harmony. It is about keeping things in perspective. When I feel like the world is out to get me simple because my laptop freezes at an inopportune moment then quite possible I have lost that perspe...

How many names do you have?

What’s your name? Do you go by your middle name? Do you have a nick name? How did you get your name? I am very fortunate. I have an accountability group that I meet with every Thursday evening. During our meetings we talk about our week, we pray together and share with each other how God has been working in our lives. Last night as we began our meeting the topic of names came up. You see most of the young couples in our mist are busy procreating. Babies are everywhere. We discussed this for several minutes. Why? Names are important! Someone has a baby, your first question is "What is the baby's name?" Names are important, see what happens when your social security number and your name don’t match up on an insurance form, have someone open a credit card in your name and find out how important your identity really is. I have special names of endearment for my children, my husband, my niece and my nephew. We all have a name and we like to be acknowledges by that name. I know...

My Struggles are about him. Part II

I love God’s sense of humor, His sense of timing and His complete and perfect ability to have things fall into place at the exact right moment for everything to begin to make sense (at least for a few brief moments of clarity, before the wind of the day changes and things become confusing again). I thought about the hidden meaning in the title of the chapter. My struggles are about him (my son) or Him our Heavenly Father. As I could not seem to stop thinking about the nature of suffering, this was a huge indicator that God was leading me in the direction to take a deeper look at it in relation to myself. Don’t-cha just hate it when that happens. A very dear friend and me were having our near daily conversations, she and I are in very similar boats with regards to living with rebellion. She made a comment to me that has been stuck in my thoughts since I hung up the phone with her. She said and I quote “There are different levels of surrender.” You see we talk about this all the time. We...
