Project 365 ~ Week 17: Playdough, Mommy Treasures and a Party

Image
Monday, April 23 .98 cents worth of salt, $2.50 worth of flour and a few other ingredients and you have enough playdough to last the entire summer. Thursday, April 26 a little Then and Now!!!!! Every mom knows the moment they walk in and find their child sitting on the floor holding a pair of scissors surrounded by piles of wacked up hair! I think it must be some randomly pre programmed event that is built into every child's DNA. A lovely unexpected event placed by the Lord into each child's genetic make up. Like the roll of the dice you just never know when the program will occur. 1993 ~ My Son…………………………………1999 ~ My Daughter 2012 ~ Muffinhead found the scissors y’all! Needless to say mom was not very happy! Muffinhead and Angel Baby have matching heads now! Friday, April 27  The DD 17th birthday is this weekend. They made there own personal pizza’s, had a spa night and then spent the rest of the evening doing what teenage girls do best. Acting silly, giggling, talki...

What were y’all doing at 6:20 this morning?

It was 6:20 A.M. I am warm and snug in my bed and I feel a light touch on my shoulder. “Mom, It really thundering a and lightening outside, Can you give me a ride to the bus stop?” I stumble out of bed and get dresses. I am thankful for my coffee. We hop in the car a few minutes later. It was coming down really hard and there was some pretty nasty thunder and lightening lighting up the skies. The bus rounds the corner and comes down the street. The DD hops out of the car and makes her way to the bus stop. I could have put the car in drive and made my way back home but I stayed for a few minutes and watched her standing there in the dark. The rain had lessened just a bit and there were two more teenagers approaching the bus stop. I sat in my warm dry car sipping my coffee and I had one of those memory flashes. How many times did I stand watch over the bus stop when my children were little. Sometimes chatting it up with the other mom's in the neighborhood. Other times just watc...

Mommy Treasures

Image
Last week when I was with Muffinhead she turned and looked at me. It was a very simple gesture but in that second it’s amazing how quickly the mind works. All the mental images I have stored in my memory banks begin to roll past. She looks so much like her dad it is startling at times. She plays like him too. This morning I was flipping though one of my bibles and I came across this picture. It was 1993, I remember this day. It defiantly falls under the category of a Mommy Treasure. I went outside to check on him in the back yard and he came running up from the very back of the yard and he was covered from head to toe is dirt! Y’all he had been having a high ol time! I remember the smile on his face, how he smelled, that little boy dirty sweaty I’ve been having fun smell. He was totally oblivious to his physical state and was only filled up with how much fun he had been having. Now fast forward to last Wednesday! 1993          ...

Thankful Thursday ~ My new favorite sentences….

Image
She speaks….in full sentences……. A very close friend is of on vacation. The DD has been employed to feed the cat and water the plants while they are away so I had driven her over after dinner. When we got home we had a sweet little surprise waiting for us. The DS and my future daughter-in law and Muffinhead had come for a visit! The DS was involved in a vacuum cleaner repair in the driveway so Muffinhead and the DD and me headed to the backyard for a popsicle break! I was busy taking pictures and had set my popsicle down on the table on top of the wrapper and my sweet chatterbox in a very clear little voice was issuing instructions! “Eat your popsicle Grandma!” With our popsicles finished the misquotes chased us inside. It wasn’t to long before she was clomping around in my flip flops. “What are you doing with my shoes!” “No! My shoes Grandma!” It just breaks my heart with love y’all!   Blessings R

Project 365 ~ Week 23

Image
The lazy days of summer…well maybe just the days of summer as we head into a week filled with preparation for Choir tour and a mission trip and all the necessary trips to wherever to get all the stuff the DD needs for her travels. This week however was a very laid back and normal kind of week. Sunday, May 29 I did not take any pictures today but it was my oldest child’s birthday. He celebrated his 22 year today! What momma doesn’t think back to when they were little and remember those first few moments with this new little person. The memories sent me to the photograph album and I had to share a few with y’all! Y’all I just burst into tears when I look at this picture. Me and Grandma and my sweet baby boy. This was the very first time the two of them ever met! My son was 19 days old in this picture. Is there anything more precious than a sleeping baby? or a fresh out of the bath, that clean baby smell…   I think this is one of my favorite picture of my sweet boy. He still...

Mommy Treasures

Image
I was checking my FB page this morning and I spent a short few minutes watching a video that had been posted by one of my oldest and dearest friends. She has a new grandbaby and they were bringing in the big sister for the big moment of meeting her new little brother. It was such a precious moment watching her little face as she got her first glimpse of her new baby brother. I love the way the mind works. One thing sparks another and then this wonderful memory played before me in my mind. I ran to the shelf with all my photograph albums on it and began pulling them out until I found the exact one I was looking for. I remember watching him walk in the room. We got him settled in the chair and carefully laid his little sister in is arms and he leaned his head in and whispered in her ear “I’m your big brother and I love you!” Blessings R

Project 365 ~ Week 6

Sunday, January 30 We had communion at church today! The tradition and the reality of the act, do this in remembrance of me…it is always a humbling moment to know that we still have the opportunity to honor Christ and his act of sacrifice in this sacred way! No pictures on Monday, January 31  Tuesday, February 1 I felt like kicking it up a notch in the kitchen tonight. Apricot Chicken made with my homemade Apricot Glaze with caramelized red onion, dry sherry and served over herbed rice. It was really good y’all! Wednesday, February 2 I finally finished my latest Prayer Shawl. I will be truing this project in on Wednesday, but I always like to get a few pictures before it gets sent off into the world. Then and Now ~ School Daze

Image
I am dazed and amazed. It was just the “Then”of yesterday and today is the “NOW” and at 5:45 this morning to boot! Then the  first day of Kindergarten…with pig tails and a red checked sun dress… Now, the first day of High School…with mascara, eyeliner, 30 minutes to flat iron the hair and her coolest T-shirt and cutest shorts… My how time flies… The DD got up at 5:00 A.M. but I slept until 5:45 A.M., I think tomorrow I will set the alarm for 6:00 A.M. and hopefully she will decide that she does not need a full 75 minutes to achieve the desired teenage perfection. It really is all about the hair y’all! Blessings R

Then and Now…

Sometimes when a moment happens it just hits you right out of the blue. You know those moments that will be a part of your memories forever more. It was simple enough, we were sitting at the table eating dinner Saturday night. If you visited here on Sunday and read my 365 post you will see further pictures about the Birthday dinner. The birthday celebration was memorable, but I think what I will remember most is this. I was watching my granddaughter exuberantly enjoying her corn and this memory flashed into my mind of 20 odd years ago. A nearly carbon copy of the exact same moment was being played out before me. We were camping and there was a sweet blue eyed, blonde haired corn covers baby perched at the end of the table. The high chairs were even nearly identical! I watch my granddaughter and remembered my son and enjoyed my little trip down memory lane in a mothers heart! Then ~ 1990 Now ~ 2010 Blessings Y’all R

One…Two…Three ~ Then and Now!
