Ok I’m trying here…another post in the black hole that is or was my blogging mojo…. 1. What are your plans for Easter? Our plans are very simple. We are going to church and then probably just returning home for lunch. Are you cooking a big lunch or dinner?   Normally I do not cook on Sunday’s and Easter is no exception. However this year the Hub’s birthday falls on Easter Sunday, so I am throwing a small Easter/Birthday dinner. Dyeing eggs? Probably not, we did when the kids were little and Muffinhead has not been here in a few days so we have not had the opportunity to have any Easter fun. Attending a sun rise service?   Our church does hold a sunrise service out at our campground but I for one will be snug in my bed at seven am. Eating too much chocolate? Does German Chocolate Cake count? That’s the Hubs cake of choice for his birthday. I do still have to assemble Muffinhead Easter basket so there might be a few chocolate eggs involved…….. ...

Happy Hodgepodge y'all! 1.  Chinese New Year will be celebrated on February 10th, and 2013 is the year of the snake. When did you last see a snake?  Are you okay around snakes or do they give you the shivers?  Snakes, I can’t claim to be necessarily phobic about them, however I don’t care to spend any long term time in the close vicinity of the slithery creatures. Also I can never remember those catchy rhymes that help you remember when snakes are venomous and which are not…red touches yellow your a good fellow….red touches black….I always forget. So I usually err on the side of caution! As a public service announcement I just Googled it and here is what I have found… Red touches Black, he's a friendly Jack. Red touches Yellow, he's a deadly fellow. 2. The color red in Chinese culture usually means good luck.  Do you believe in luck? Not really, more accurately I believe in God-incidences. I understand random happenings and things falling in place in a g...

1. The popular saying, ' All is fair in love and war' is originally credited to English writer John Lyly.  Is he right? Hmmmm…..I guess my initial answer is no. From a biblical perspective there is a very clear directive to do what is right in all things. Love or war, my actions should always line up with what God’s word tells me. However living in the world I am often challenged with situations where I fail to do the right thing. The reality of war is very different from the reality we all live in, so never having been in a war or lived through a war I can understand that at times things need to be done that may go against what is popular or right in favor of protection or safety. Where love is concerned, thankfully I no lo longer have to worry about perusing love, having been happily married for these thirty long years. This however does not eliminate my responsibility to be fair, compassionate, selfless, respectful and loving. 2. Are you a cereal eater?  What's your...

Joining the hodgepodge fun today! 1. Lake Superior University has once again published a list of words/phrases they think should be banished from the Queen's English...here's the list for 2013 - fiscal cliff, kick the can down the road, double down, job creators/creation, passion/passionate, yolo (an acronym for you only live once), spoiler alert, bucket list, trending, superfood, boneless wings, and guru Which of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why. Go here to read more about how the words were chosen. How can I pick…they are all worthy candidates. I could go the rest of my life without ever hearing the phrase fiscal cliff again, but I think the winner for me would have to be boneless wings….cause there simply is no such thing. Let’s just call it what is is, a chicken nugget! 2.  When was the last time you rode a train?  Where did you go? The only train in our vicinity is the rapid transit system for metro Atlanta. I rarely...

1. What is ONE thing or area in your home or life you hope to report is completely organized when 2013 draws to a close?  Well I know what the area is, however I am doubtful that it will get addressed. I have a HUGE issue with my household accounts. The process of paying and filling my bills. They all get paid yet there always seems to be a huge stack of miscellaneous bills, notices and etc just laying around the computer. It makes me nuts….. Do you  have a plan to make it happen? Not really, I wish I did. It is a hot button for me. I try to stay ahead of it but sadly it seems like I am lost in an ocean of invoices and other forms of paper. All the bills get paid, it’s what happens to them after I have sent the money off. My filing cabinet is inadequate. I purchased a small wooden filing cabinet and rapidly found out that it has a HUGE design flaw. It falls over if both drawers are open at the same time, in other words it is a very cheap filing cabinet. In a perfect wo...

Happy New Year Y’all! I am still kinda taking it easy so I am lolling around in my jammies waiting for the girlchild to wake up. It’s our last day of the Christmas break and the Hub’s went back to work this morning so it’s just me and the dog curled up on he sofa right now watching the news and enjoying a morning of rest and doing not a whole lot!!!!!!!   1.  How did you ring in the new year? Unfortunately it was a very uneventful New Years Eve for us. Thankfully the worst of the symptoms had passed by New Years Eve but I was still recovering from a nasty bout of stomach virus. The Hubs and Girlchild celebrated with Chinese take out and I nursed a ginger ale and had a few sips of chicken noodle soup….woooo whooooo for me! 2.  What is one thing you are looking forward to in 2013? My goal for the year is to get started on redecorating my master bedroom. I can’t really say I am looking forward to it but I know once I get all the sewing (my lest favorite thing to do)...

Here are this week's questions- 1. How will you spend ' the night before Christmas '? Typically we go to church for the Christmas Eve service. Sometimes we will have close friends over for hors devours after church . If it’s just us then I pare it down but still keep it to finger food snaky type stuff. I am thinking maybe some baked oysters, maybe some nachos, there might be a cocktail on the menu and then something sweet. It’s a no fuss no muss kind of thing. When we had little ones we made a big deal of Jesus' Birthday and had cake and ice cream and then we would plan for several days exactly what we would leave out for Santa. Now the Girlchild is well past the yearning to leave a plate of treats for Santa. I still wait until the Girlchild goes to bed to fill the stockings, some mommy habits are hard to break I think. 2.  What is one thing you are not? young, thin, disciplined, un-opinionated and lastly obedient as I couldn't restrain myself to just one thin...

1.  So, when did you last take a walk in the woods? A stroll along the beach? A drive going nowhere in particular in the car?  Back in September the Hubs and I took a drive up to the N. GA. Mountains to see some fall foliage. It was great weather, and we enjoyed the day together. We did have a destination in mind, we were headed to Vogel State Park and we had a pic-nic in tow. You can click here to see a few pictures. 2.  Are you sending Christmas cards this year?  About how many do you send?  Photo card or something more traditional?  How do you display the cards you receive? My answer…NO! I used to send Christmas cards a long time ago. Now not so much. I think for my hormonally shifting emotional state of mind the less on my plate the better. Not to mention the things that just slip off my plate unintentionally having something else to do at the Holidays is just not a good idea for me right now. I do have a small Christmas basket that I use to set out ...

I think I am getting the hang of WH, 1.  Share your traditions surrounding the Christmas stocking. Honestly around our house we really don’t have any hard and fast rules surrounding Christmas stockings. However they are usually retrieved from the mantle last after all the gifts are opened. Typically the customary stocking contents are usually a few personal items appropriate for either the female or male (nail polish, hair accessories or shaving paraphernalia you know all that kind of stuff) there may be a few Starbucks cards tucked in for good measure or maybe an iTunes card or some other gift card. I usually always top off each stocking with a little something sweet, a favorite candy or some chocolate…. 2.  How many hours of sleep do you average at night?  Is it enough? If I am on an even keel hormonally speaking then I usually get about 7 to 8 hours of sleep. Most nights I am in bed by 10:30 to 11:00, I used to be a bit of a night owl, however now that I am also ...

Good Wednesday Morning, It is time for a bit of Hodgepodge, love that word by the way! Christmas is right aroun the cornere, four Hodgepodges to go till Christmas….How did that happen? 1.  With that being said I think I need to dive right in to some Christmas related questions, don't you? Which do you prefer-pretty gift wrap with a bow or a pretty gift bag with/without a bow?  I think I kinda like both, some gifts just require wrapping paper and others work better with a gift bag. However the thrifty side of me loves a gift bag as I can reuse them….. What percentage of your holiday gifts are currently (as in right this very minute) wrapped in some form or fashion? Easy answer…..ZERO! Also I will share that I have bought exactly one gift so far….YIKES! 2.  What is one item on your Christmas list this year? Most of the time I gravitate to kitchenware, I just got an awesome Kitchen torch for my birthday and I LOVE it! However this year I think I am going to ask fo...

I woke up early on Tuesday morning and I had my house all to myself. I dropped the girlchild off at my sisters and the Hubs is away on a business trip…can you say Wooo Hooooo! So I spent a few minute doing a bit of blog hopping. Since I had a few uninterrupted  minutes I decide to give Wednesday Hodgepodge a go! 1. Turkey-love it or leave it?  White meat or dark?  What's your favorite thing to make using leftover turkey? I enjoy turkey, however like most folks I usually only serve it at thanksgiving. My opinions, the only proper way to prepare a turkey is to brine it. If I am going to go to the effort of cooking a turkey then going the extra 24 hours to get it brined ahead of time is totally worth the effort. The end result will yield a wonderful juicer flavorful bird! If you are so inclined you can go to food network and look up Alton Brown’s recipe for brining a turkey, I highly recommend it. I like both the white and dark meat, but if pressed I would always chose t...

I'm joining Joyce From this Side of the Pond for the Wednesday Hodgepodge today! She is inching ever so close to the centennial version; this is week #98! 1. Noah Webster was born this week back in 1758....besides the online version, do you own a dictionary?  Do you ever use the hardback copy or is your hunt for a definition strictly online these days? I own several dictionaries, one was gift from a dear friend. We had a habit of picking a “Word of the Day” and each day we would randomly open the dictionary and then all try to incorporate that word into our conversation each day. The person who was able to use the word the most was the winner. I do still from time to time use my hardback dictionary but more times than not I will yield to the conveyance of the internet. It really is way simpler. Edit: I worked up this post yesterday, however I was visiting my FB page this morning and happen upon one of my blogging pals Sassy Granny . She is one of the most well spoken individu...

So I am completely being a slacker today and just piddling away the day sitting in my recliner and bouncing around the internet. In an effort to continue my diligence to avoid anything strenuous or domestically productive (i.e. the piles of laundry and full dishwasher) I am joining in on Wednesday Hodgepodge. 1. I'm joining my daughter1 in the 101 in 1001 challenge . Essentially you create a list of 101 things you want to accomplish or do in the next 1001 days. What's one thing you'd put on your list? Actually, I am GOING to have the Yard Sale. I have been thinking about it for a while and I missed my spring window so I am planning it for early October. My dinning room is overflowing with ‘STUFF”!   2. How many remote controls do you have in your house? What's one item in your home you wish could be run by remote control? There are seven (ceiling fan, television, cable, DVR, 2 Wii remotes and one for the stereo)  sitting with in an arms reach of my right now. If ...

Hodgepodge…I love that word! 1. Share a favorite song lyric. I am not a HUGE listener of music. I’m a talk radio kinda girl. But I do love a good musicals. South Pacific, Oklahoma, Sound of Music, Guys and Dolls…”I got the horse right here his name is paul revere and the guy he says if the weathers clear…can do, can do…this guys says the horse can do…” or “I dreamed last night I got on the boat to heaven and by some chance I had brought my dice along…” but then who can pick…’Do a deer a female deer….” or “Happy, Happy, Happy, Happy Talk….talk about things you like to dooo…” y’all I am humming and tapping my feet. 2. When was the last time someone yelled at you? Ok….after a few minutes of searching the old memory banks I pulled one out. I have to be honest and say that it has been such a long time since anyone really yelled at me I had to stop and think. Personally I have done my fair share of yelling over the course of my maternal life but having it directed at me is a bit different. ...

I am joining Joyce over at This Side of the Pond for Wednesday Hodgepodge today! So let’s get to it! 1. What is one thing on your bucket list? If you don't have a bucket list let's pretend you do. How can I just pick one. I have not sat down and actually made out a Bucket List but if I did there are a lot of things I would put on it. Experience the Northern Lights Walk on the Great Wall of China Visit the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam Visit the Holy Land Go to Rome, Paris, England, New Zealand, Spain, Australia, Ireland, Easter Island, Bali, Tahiti… Participate in a CIA Boot Camp and Cooking Vacation A fall tour of the east coast and New England Visit the Smithsonian Win the lottery so I can afford to do all these amazing things….hmmmm looks to me like I have started my Bucket List…. 2. What makes a good dad? Those of us with father issues know exactly the character traits of a good father. Thankfully my daughter will never have to know a life without her daddy! ...

1. Do you and your family enjoy camping? What do you enjoy most/like the least when it comes to family camping? When was the last time you camped? We used to go camping all the time! We still have all the gear stowed away in the attic. Back in the day it was the only vacation that we could afford to do as a family so when vacation time rolled around we packed up the back of the van and headed out. We never went very far, and sometime I would head out on a Thursday evening to get the campsite set up so we could have the whole weekend to just enjoy ourselves. It’s amazing at how efficient I got at putting up a huge tent all by myself, and with a toddler in tow to boot! I had it organized down to the very last detail and with our limited resources I would usually splurge a bit on the food. We usually had more treat’s on our camping trips then we did on a daily basis. I think my least thing about camping is the point A to point B process. Hearing “Is all this crap really necessary!” as w...
