Y’all…sometime I have to wonder about myself…

Image
I promised I would share about my funny! Well here it is! In my last P365 post I shared about a canning demonstration that Skoots1mom and I went to. If you are a regular here then you know I enjoy my time in the kitchen and I especially get a sense of connection to my Grandmother when I am canning my jam’s and jellies. However you want to know my take away for the whole experience….what did I learn? I was watching the woman do her demonstration. It was an epiphany of humiliation! Several years ago for my birthday Skoots1mom gave me a “Thing and a Thing” as I have affectionately referred to them since she gave them to me. You can click here to read the post about it! Their official culinary terms are a jar lifter and funnel! But I digress. So there I am sitting in the room raptly watching the woman give us all the necessary details about the art of pressure canning when she reaches over and picked up “The Thing” and proceed to lift up one of the jars up to put in into the p...

Project 365 ~ Week 30: It was a productive week!

Image
Some weeks ya got it and some weeks ya don’t! This week I had an unexpected boost of energy and several opportunities to put my creative juices to use.  Monday, July 23 Monday I canned a few tomatoes. I really did not have that many, however no one else in my family likes fresh tomatoes….I have wondered for a long time what is wrong with them! But I continue to love them any way regardless of this HUGE flaw in the taste buds! After struggling for several years trying to grow successful tomatoes for what ever reason this year I actually had some limited success. I only had enough tomatoes for four small jars but I have been wanting to try canning tomatoes for a long time and just never had enough to give it a go. It was a bit labor intensive for such a small amount but you work with what ya got sometimes! Tuesday, July 24 Are good friends the best or what! Skoots1mom scored these FREE chairs the other day in her daily thrifting rounds. YES I said FREE! They were being tossed ...

Project 365 ~ Week 11: I can’t believe it has been three years…

Monday, March 12 I bought on of these on Monday. I am still learning about all the features this has. However It has gone off several times this week. I can tell you that when it does go off it will defiantly get your attention. Especially if you are not prepared for a shrill blast to go off. Talk about jumping out of your skin. I think there may be a way to make it not be so loud but then doesn't thank kind of defeat the purpose.   As well as being prepared for the next wave of sever weather to come through I am stocked up on birthday cake supplies. Seeing as there is a birthday cake in my future later in the week this is a good thing. Tuesday, March 13 Muffinhead woke up to thunder and heavy rain. We had to go watch for a few minute at the window to assure ourselves that everything was ok and the rain was going to stay outside. Grandma: “Good morning sleepyhead.” Muffinhead hears the thunder: “It’s raining in my bedroom.” Grandma: “No! It’s raining outside!” Thursday...

Orange Marmalade….it makes me think of my Grandma

Image
Back in June I posted about My Bucket List , you know all the things you want to do before you pass through the pearly gates. Well there are a lot of very wonderful places all around the worlds that are all worthy candidates. However living with limited resources one must be realistic. Dreaming about amazing places and even one day getting to check a few off my list are goals to aspire to. But it got me to thinking about the things that we can all do every day. Those things that are within or grasp. Improving our minds, growing closer to friends and family. Learning new things. I think for me one of the things that I have come to realize is that getting older is more about your state of mind. I know my body at times is very uncooperative as far as what I think I should be able to accomplish. However that does not mean that I need to yield to the process and just stop trying to learn new things. One of my all time favorite simple pleasures is Orange Marmalade. It always reminds me of ...

Project 365 ~ Week 43: Hug’s, Marmalade and Homecoming

Well I can’t claim success this week as far as capturing a picture every day, however the shots I did get I think are representative of my week. No pictures on Sunday, October 16 or Monday, October 17….bummer but I guess nothing photo worthy happen…… Tuesday, October 18 Grandpa’s new screensaver for sure! No pictures on Wednesday, October 19, Thursday, October 20 or Friday or October 21. And no i was not abducted by aliens….I think I was just not into the picture taking this week. I actually did take some pictures on Friday, but I am saving them for a future post about my adventure with Orange Marmalade. The jury is still out on the success of this adventure. The recipe takes several days to fully set. It will be an additional few day before I can do any tasting to determine if all the hard work was worth the effort. So until then it’s the wonderful waiting game. I hate waiting. I want to try it now! I was a bit skeptical that I had followed the recipe correctly. It appeared to ...
