Be Still and Know...Then and Now

We had some extreme weather, I made an awesome chocolate cake and our last glaze firing was full of lots of happy results! Monday, January 28 Overall I was very happy with this coffee cup, there is a slight boo boo on the other side due to an operator error when I glazed it but live and learn is the phrase for the day where me and the clay are concerned…. I call these glaze buggers…I am sure there is a technical pottery term but bugger works for me! Tuesday, January 29 Skoots1mom posted a recipe on her FB page for a vinegar cake, it was so simple that I had to try it. You can be sure I will be keeping this one around for a long time. The amazing thing is that the recipe required absolutely no eggs! It is just your simple every day pantry ingredient, and most of the time we all have them in our pantry all the time, so the next time you need a super quick desert idea….my suggestion is a vinegar cake. Sunday, July 1 Sunday evening after dinner we were enjoying an DVD when we were interrupted by what we thought was the roof coming down upon our heads. Hail, big hail to be exact! The Hubs was concerned because it was so big it was bouncing up off the ground and smashing into the windows with such force we thought one might shatter. Well this week was definitely a departure for us down here in the south. the eight-ish inches of snow we experienced sent nearly the entire state into a snow induced coma and we found ourselves snowed in for the entire week.  Sunday, January 9 It doesn't happen often down south but when it does it totally sends almost everything into a tail spin. The meteorologist got it right this time and the predicted snow began to fall right on schedule Sunday evening. Well it’s day two of the 2011 Snow Jam, the roads are frozen over, the mail is not running and all the schools are closed for the second consecutive day. I anticipate them being closed yet again tomorrow. We got a whopping 8 inches of snow in my area and since Sunday evening the temps have been hovering at or below freezing. It snowed all night long on Sunday and then on Monday by mid morning it turned to a steady few hours worth of freezing rain so now all the snow is covered with a nice thick shell of ice. Monday morning we opened our front door to see this tidy little snow drift baring our path to the front walk, it was like little House on the Prairie Homecoming Christmas special, I had visions of  Mr. Edwards trudging through the snow to get to the safety of the Ingalls’ cabin…..   The hubs dove back in the storage area in the garage and retrieved the long abandoned sled.
