A Journey to Trees

Image
My how time flies. Back in March when the first shovel full of soil was turned for my raised veggie garden we began the process of transforming my back yard from the barren wasteland it is (click here to view a short video from a previous post on My Garden:Now and Then)  to an actual backyard that I really want to go out into and spend some time in. I am beyond excited to share that we now have two trees in the backyard. I was not only jumping for joy   but I was doing the flat out happy dance, several unrestrained bouts of glee erupted in fact. September 12, 2009 We began in September with a simple $5.00 can of spray paint from the Home Depot and a bottle of vegetation killer from the local hardware store. We marked out the contour of the bed and sprayed to kill the grass and then stepped back and waited…. September 28, 2009 We ended up having to spray the grass twice to get it completely killed. In “hindsight” when you look at it from this angle the bed does...

An Ornithologist I’m not.

I have to share the latest bit of excitement at my house. As some of you will remember from a few weeks ago I wrote post about the Blue birds that were courting in my back yard. I was so excited with the flurry of activity and animated swooping and calling back and forth they did. I was looking forward to the possibility of a tiny blue bird family setting up house right outside of my sun room window. My excitement was short lived as for the flurry of activity only last but a few days. I was very disappointed. Well much to my great excitement, it seems that the love story has been rekindled. I am not sure if this is the same pair of blue birds, but I think it is. Quite possible they had a lovers spat and took a break from each other to borrow from an episode of “Friends” but I was very happy to see that the nest building activity has stated back as of a few days ago. The interesting thing to watch is that both the male and the female are participating in this activity. They will alterna...

Blue Bird Love????

Many post ago, I found myself whining about the pitiful state of my back yard. I shared that I seldom found a reason to even look out there due to the vast barrenness of my tiny patch of ground. I do not even recall if I even prayed about this particular issue. I was just content to complain and bemoan how awful my backyard was. Well God in His infinite wisdom quite possibly got very tired of my internal whining and has graciously given me something to look at in my back yard after all. Several days ago I awoke to an anxious ruckus in my back yard. I sat on my sofa drinking my morning coffee and was promoted to rise and investigate the source of the strange disturbance. To give you a brief bit of background, just after moving into our new house my sister gave me a bird house as a birthday gift. A sweet small wood house with a tiny perch on the front. Having no trees in the back yard (yet!) I had to purchase a wrought iron shepherds crook to stake in the ground to hold the bird house. I...
