When Calendars Collide ~ Updated and Revised Edition…which I am sure will grow and grow and grow…..

Y’all all I have done over that last few days it seems is whip out the old debit card….more money please. Not to mention my Disciple closing and all with in a few days of each other. Thankful Thursday: What’s your Treasured Possession? Thoughts during a stormy night!

I’m a bit bleary eyed this morning as I blink away the fog from my sleep deprived brain. I spent the better part of the evening glued to the television set watching the tornadoes blow through our southern region. It was well past 2:00 AM before I felt comfortable enough to go to bed. As I was thinking about how to orchestrate all of us in the small hall bathroom I was calculating just how may sofa cushions would be necessary to cover us. And knowing without a shadow of a doubt that there is no way in the world that all three of us plus the dog will fit in my hall bathroom bathtub.

At about 10:30 last night I had a conversation with Skoots1mom, her girl child was in the path of the storm and knowing your child is in harms way and you are not there to hold them in your arms even if that baby is a 20something well it breaks a momma’s heart. It strikes fear and an almost indescribable dread to fill you up. As I talked to Scoot's I was trying desperately to make a back up of all my files on to our external drive. I was also wondering why I can never remember how to do this. Skoots in her ever logical way instruct me to write it down once I figured it out…like I’ll be able to find my instruction during the next tornado warning! After a few minutes I did manage to get all my precious files backed up, all my muffinhead pictures, all my treasured vacation pictures, all my blog post, all my journal entries, I felt better as I unplugged the drive from the computer and set it on top of the dog kennel along with Busters leash to make sure that it would be accessible should we have to make a hasty dive for the hall bathroom. No joke I almost took it to bed with me but calmer heads prevailed.

I did however make sure that my brand spanking new glasses (both pair) were directly with in reach on the night stand, I did not want those pricy puppies betting blow to smithereens if my house got sucked into a tornado.

It was a fun night y’all!

But here’s where I restrained myself. During our conversation Skoot’s and I began to discuss the precious things that we would hate to loose. Who doesn't think of that when they see a house fire on the news or look at those who are sorting through the rubble of a home ravaged by a tornado. I simply can not imagine having that experience. As I prepared for bed I thought of putting my wedding ring on my finger, my fingers swell in the warm weather so I had taken it off. I have another ring that the Hubs surprise me with a few years ago, maybe I should put that on as well, then there is my…I am sure you can fill in the blanks. Picture me laying in bed in my p.j.’s wearing every piece of valuable jewelry that I own…..

Do you know what your most treasured possession is?

Several months ago I attended a Ray Vander Laan conference. I am always fascinated by the Hebrew language and the deep and rich meaning that is hidden with in the translations. The Hebrew word for Treasured Possession is segullah.

Original Word: סְגֻלָּה
Transliteration: segullah
Phonetic Spelling: (seg-ool-law')
Short Definition: possession

God refers to His (that’s you and me folks!) people as treasured possessions in many places in the Old Testament. Mr. Vander Laan described this to mean that if all your loved ones in your family were safely out of a burring house what is the one treasured possession that you would risk your life to go back for.

Segullah, that‘s what this means.

I could not help but think of all the things in my home. There are many things that I would be heartbroken to loose. But could I narrow it down to just one thing, If I could only grab one thing what would it be?

As I laid on the sofa at 1:45 with the dog watching the meteorologist advise folk directly in the path of the tornado all over the south to take cover right now!!!! Well while folks were running for their basement and interior rooms Buster and I snoozed on and off on the sofa. The wind whipped around my house, the thunder rumbles, the lightening light up the outside and I began to think. Could possible very quietly tip toe into the sitting room right next to my sleeping husband and haul my huge Rubbermaid trunk full of my old journals into the hall bathroom. Yes, Yes I did, well I at least thought about it!

 IMG_5863IMG_5862

You see it’s wedged under an old broken hard drive and about twenty pounds of clothing that needs to go to goodwill…I calculated the odds of begin able to silently maneuver this feet and I decided that praying for a hedge of protection around my house was the better option.

I went and pried them loose from the bottom of the closet this morning and gave them a visit. I pull them out every now and again…talk about a blast from the past. Well without a doubt if all my loved ones were safe and sound this would be the one thing that I would go back and try to save! There are almost 40 of them, the pages of my life so to speak! It’s almost time for a larger trunk, well maybe a second trunk in any event.

Hmmm…..I wonder how long it would take to scan all this into a PDF?

As I woke up this morning I was thankful that the storm passed us by last night. I also know that there are many who today are waking up with no homes, or living there first days with out a loved one. There are mothers missing there daughters and daughters wishing they had their momma’s arms around them.

Thankful for the sunrise and the new day and that all is well in my house!

Blessings

We have been tearing up the Kohl’s card getting ready for vacation. I racked up $40.00 in Kohl's cash and I had a 30% off coupon, YEA for me. I got these two pairs of shoes, which will be perfect for all that vacation walking in my very near futures and a pair of comfy crop sweat pants for the plane ride, all for $35.00 dollars….I hate to shop but I love getting a good deal!

Ever have one of those mornings??? Who hasn’t

I was running late….

4-20-2011 1

my gas gage was telling me something and I did not have time to make a stop to fill up

4-20-2011 2

The DD has taken to having a cup of coffee in the morning before she leaves for school. Which under normal circumstances is no big deal, however since I was running late there was no time to put on a second pot and since she hit the brew button at 5:15 A. M. by the time I poured my cup to go there was about a swallow left and it was cold…..

4-20-2011 3

I also ran out of time for breakfast so it was a cereal bar in the car….

4-20-2011 4

Love to start the day that way don’t y’all…

Thankfully the end of the day was much improved. This sweet little ballerina had a blast tromping around the back yard. We grilled hamburgers and had a wonderful time! My not so good morning was all but forgotten!

IMG_5804

Thursday, April 21

Time to plant….

Tomato…YES, Green Beans…YES, Corn…YES, Green Pepper…YES, Jalapeño…YES, Zucchini…YES, Parsley, Basil, Oregano…YES,YES,YES

IMG_5810IMG_5809

Cucumbers…NO, Lettuce…NO, Spinach…NO…NO, NO, NO! I sure was hoping to get it all done in one trip but alas it was not to be! One more trip is in my very near future….I really want to try my hand at some salad greens this year. I may have to resort to seeds…I have never done that either….

Friday, April 22

I think Iris are my favorite flower….

 IMG_5827

Now I am going to give you guys a little before and after action.

I got my veggie garden nearly in. I still have a few seeds to get in the ground but the majority of the seedling have been planted. I cleaned out the herb garden and planted new basil, parsley, oregano and a few others. But take notice at the mayhem of the rock border. There is a small family of toads as well as a small green lizard that live in there and Buster is intent upon making friends with them. This in turn makes a mess of rock border.

IMG_5835

Saturday, April 23

Well I made a trip to the Wal-Mart for some miscellaneous household stuff and I returned home to find this in the back yard.

IMG_5840 IMG_5839

I’d call that a HUGE difference aaaaaaand I’d give the Hub’s a BIG round of applause. However you all need to keep Buster and me in your prayers. Me to be diligent in keeping him out of the new rock border and Buster for keeping his inquisitive nose out of my herb garden.

This last picture just makes me smile. Y’all I got stuff in my backyard again. Real trees, real flowers, bushes…well now I have something to look at from my backdoor. I can sit and eat my breakfast and watch the birds land on the branches of my trees and look out at actual flowers. I am beyond happy! It really is the simple things that make me the happiest.

Tree’s y’all, flowers, a little bit of green grass and still gracious plenty of room for more. I have a garden to work in now and I am over the moon!

IMG_5841

Y’all check this out! This was two years ago!

IMG_0002 IMG_0001

HUGE difference…..I

I’m smiling y’all!

Well that’s it for me for this week.

I hoe all of you have a wonderful Easter and a blessed week ahead.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What are your plans for Easter Day/weekend?

First we will go to church. He is Risen…Praise the Lord Y’all!!!!!

We have not discussed our plans for Easter. We usually reserve Sunday’s for resting and relaxing, observing the Sabbath rest is so very important. Now that there are no little ones in my home any more the days Easter Egg hunts are no more. However the Easter Bunny will probably make a stop at our house with a basket for Muffinhead.

2. Besides Jesus, what one person from The Bible would you most like to meet and why?

That’s a tough question. To start with maybe Paul, but then who wouldn't want to have a conversation with Peter or John or Matthew. However wouldn't you like to get Sarai perspective? What was she thinking when Abram came and told her to pack up everything and move from their home? Lastly, what mothers heart is not broken when we think about Mary? As a mother….I want to have a conversation with this precious woman.

3. What is one modern day convenience you didn't have as a child that was easy to live without?

I could probably live with out my microwave. I only use it every once and a while. Realistically I could probably live with out my cell phone. I think we have gotten into the very bad habit of thinking that we have to be assessable 24/7, which is just not true. In the stage of my life where I am now it is become an ever more increasing instance where I find myself having just left the house and my phone is still sitting where ever I left it back at the house. What I realize is that there are very few times in life when access to me is critical to life and death issues. It will be OK if I am unreachable for the hour it take me to get in and out of the store or what ever I am doing.

4. Are you more right brained or left brained? If you don't know what that means there is an interesting little quiz here.

I would say right brain, however when I took the quiz it was nearly an even split right down the middle, so I’m not sure what that means.

5. What is something you intended to do today but didn't? Why?

Go to the post office…..I have a package to drop off that is to big to fit in the mail box. With gas prices begin what they are my days of making singular trip out and about are no more. If I don’t have to leave the hose for something then I don’t. When I do have to make a trip out I always try to consolidate my trips and hit as many stops all in one trip!

6. Cadbury Creme Eggs or Reese's peanut butter?

Peanut Butter Cups

7. Who was your favorite cartoon character when you were a child?

Foghorn Leghorn…….get outta here boy…ya bother me……..

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Yes or no?

I am listening to the new (Tuesday on GMA) and there is a piece about this dog grooming contest. It is primarily poodles, the contest is about making the dog into some other design. They use colored hair spray and various other products. The all say that the products are completely safe and that there is no harm to the animals.

All I can say is “Bless their little doggie heart’s!” I think Buster would pop a vein if he had to endure this kinds of treatment. Skoots1mom got him a sweater one year for Christmas and we put it on him and his goal in life for the next few minutes was to try to chew it off, so dressing him up or decorating him I think would be a massive failure. Not to mention the indignity of the whole thing. But then a dog is a dog, but there are moments when I get this amazing sense of understanding in Buster’s eyes. His companionship, his joyful exuberances, his ability to sleep almost all day long, the fact that no matter what, he is always so happy to see me when I walk through the door, well I think that kind of loyalty and love deserves respect.

So no spray pained dog for me!

Well I don’t do Wednesday Hodgepodge very often but it was a good distraction but now I have to go finish up my bible study for tomorrow. Bad from for the facilitator to show up unprepared don’tcha think????????

Fifth Grade Assignment

I don’t know if this is true or not. It was one of those forward this email kind of things.

I sure hope it is, but even if it isn't I loved the message!

Wouldn't this be great if it was taught in every school.
A fifth grade teacher in a Christian school asked her class to look at TV commercials and see if they could use them in 20 ways to communicate ideas about God.

Here are some of the results:

Project 365 ~ Week 16

Hey guys! I only missed one day this week so that’s a plus in my book. It was a week of mental vacations and good and bad fairies, if ya read my post from yesterday then you know that I was not in my happy place. I am glad to repot that things in the Be Still and Know household have improved to the degree that I am no longer wishing evil fairies upon others, however I am reserving the right to recall them at will should the situation call for reinforcements.

Moving on to the week in pictures….

Sunday, April 10

Buster is very adept at making sure he is readily available to snatch any thing that falls on the floor during meal preparation. Every once and a while I will try to fake him out with the odd piece of salad fixing's. Being the smart canine that he is he quickly caught on the my deception. You can’t fool him, not for long anyway!

 4-14-2011 bIMG_5592

The after my eyes were able to focus we had an unexpected visit! I love those sweet little surprises don’t y’all!

And they were just in time for dinner so I set three extra plates. God is good and I had enough to go round!

IMG_5599IMG_5601IMG_5602

IMG_5603IMG_5604IMG_5606

Regretfully I did not take any pictures on Friday, April 15, I think I was in rebellion after having to pay our income taxes!

Saturday, April 16

It was the Family Promise Bed Race! This was the second year for the Bed Races and it was a wonderful day. The weather was just perfect.

This is one of my Accountability Sisters. She is the driver of one of the bed! There is a highly technical and strategic set of skills required to pilot a bed. Basically you have to concentrate on trying not to fall off and steer at the same time! Keeping in in-between the traffic cones is a plus as well. I am proud to repot that she was able to achieve both goals and remained safely in the bed during the race and did not take out any pedestrians or traffic cones. Sadly their team did not win but they raised money for a wonderful program and it was a super fun day!

IMG_5675

We had a Congressman…

IMG_5667

and the Mayor…

IMG_5663

and a Meteorologist, he was from the local television station. He was the Grand Marshal of the parade as well as the Race Day Announcer.

IMG_5650

We were blessed with Angels among us…

 IMG_5651

and leery of the Pirates of the Galilean…

IMG_5632

They had cool t-shirts made up I thought!

IMG_5637

We even had a few ferocious tigers thrown in the mix…

 IMG_5674

Well that’s it for me for this P365!

Y’all head over to Sara’s and link up for more P365 fun!
