Project 365 VS Computer Woe’s, Choir Practice and Arm Wrestling the DD and the Hubs for PC Time

As I type it is approximately 8:30 pm. I attempted to get my 365 post done earlier this afternoon but the computer demons had inhabited my computer and it simply froze up at every key stroke.

Then I had to drive the DD to Choir practice. I have been over the course of the last few years been gently suggesting the she join the youth choir so I thought that complaining now that she actually has joined was not the right thing to do.

Then we get home and I had to wait my turn while said daughter checked her email for church announcements regarding her newly joined choir.

Then I had to wait still further while the hubs checked his email.

Y’all I MISS MY LAPTOP!

So without further whining I move on to my 365 such as it is.

Not my best attempt at capturing an image a day. I missed three days without so much as a snapshot. :(

Tuesday, August 24

Just down from my house there is some property, it is fenced off from the road and there is a dilapidated barn, it is dilapidated in a charming weathered sort of way, not a wow they need to tear that barn down way. From time to time I will spy the odd horse grazing off in the distance. I am not sure who lives on this property but I suspect that if I were to proceed down the gravel drive I might find a small little farm house.

The other day in the corner of this lot I drove by and there were at least 6 or more of these wonderful goats. They had congregated out by the fence and were craning their necks through the fencing to reach the foliage just beyond their reach.

The next day I took my camera with me and pulled over on the side of the road to snap of a few pictures of these sweet little barn yard animal.

I have to tell y’all it is the highlight of my day to drive down the road and get a glimpse of this goat family having a meeting on the side of the road.

One of the reason for my lack of photographs is this.

IMG_4036

When we were on vacation this past summer the DD had picked up a copy of this book to read while we were gone. I have to share that I am not a huge Nicholas Sparks fan. I have not read many of his book but the few I have read seem to focus on very tragic ends or love and love lost kind of thing. I spent the whole of our vacation teasing the DD about the fact that if she was reading a Nicholas Sparks book then she could count on one thing.

Spoiler Alert, if you have not read this book and you want to you may want to skip over this next part.

I do not want to ruin it for you!

NICHOLAS SPARKS  = SOMEONE WAS GONNA DIE!

Well having finished the last two books Dangerous Heart and The Carousel Painter, both of which I won over at Mocha with Linda. I just love her and all the book she recommends. I needed something else to read!

But I digress.

I was bound and determined to proved my point!

Well I hate to toot my own horn but within a few pages of starting this book I could see the eventual outcome just staring me straight in the face.

Divorce, teenage love, teenage rebellion, someone gets set on fire, and yes there is a major character that dies.

Well to say that I enjoyed myself as I gloated to the DD over supper that evening is the understatement of the year!!!!!

I had in fact been completely accurate in my prediction that if it was a Nicholas Sparks novel then…..SOMEONE IS GONNA DIE!

Wednesday, August 25

Wednesday began with my Disciple Bible Study and Skoots1mom is also facilitating a class on Wednesday mornings so we have fallen back into our lunch habit after class.

We tried a new Mexican place just in town. It was very good and very authentic Mexican cuisine.

 IMG_4042 IMG_4043

After a wonderful lunch with Skoots I was doubly blessed to have my son and his family for dinner at church. I enjoyed my meal sitting next to my little muffin head!

Look at her little pigtails y’all!

IMG_4047

They kinda remind me of this…..

Cindy Lou Who, who is no more than 2, hates the Grinch

Thursday, August 26

I was on a roll as blessing go.

I got to spend the entire morning with Muffin Head on Thursday.

She has learned how to push the button on my camera that take the pictures. I have about a dozen or so pictures of her elbow, her chin, the top of her head.

She is a budding photographer, well maybe not, but she had fun anyway!

IMG_4054 IMG_4058

Saturday, August 28

Banana pancakes, and no I didn't cook them.

What a treat to enjoy these wonderful pancakes prepared by the DD.

IMG_4060

Well that’s it for me. Better late than never!

For more Project 365 y’all head over to Sara’s and link up.

Hopefully next week will be a bit more fulfilling as far as meeting the picture a day goal! One can only hope!

Mount Rushmore

What do ya do when you just can’t be random?

What do ya do when you hate to leave things unfinished?

What do ya do…you pull out the old vacation file and spend some time in Mount Rushmore!

IMG_3427

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water……another vacation post!

A long time ago actually about two months in a land far far away on the road from Bozeman to South Dakota a family went on vacation….

We drove most of the day and arrived in South Dakota just before supper time. Our trip ticket was timed perfectly and we were able to check in to the hotel and get a quick bite of dinner and then head into the park for the nightly show.

We had been advise by a good friend that the evening show was not to be missed. After having the experience I can state with all honesty that my friend was absolutely correct.

If you want to boost your emotional quotient for American Pride then I highly recommend a visit to Mount Rushmore.

If you are heading up to the carving then please don’t miss the evening show, it is inspiring!

IMG_3410

They show an awesome film about the process of how the carving came into being as well as focus on the four presidents that grace the mountain side. At the end of the program the carving is light and the faces are highlighted against the night sky.

It is impressive, to fall back on a familiar adjective.

The emotional scales tip as the Park Range calls down all military personal in attendance, either retired or still on active duty to come forward and stand on the stage. As they begin to filter down the patriotic pride  hovers thick over the crowd and it begins to fill you up and then it just spills out. Leave it to the DD to put things into perspective. She looks across at me dabbing the tears from my cheeks.

She then announces “Seriously mom! SERIOUSLY!”

Leave it to the teenager…and yes there was eye rolling!

IMG_3409IMG_3411

We live in a great country and as you stand and watch the flag being retired for the evening you suddenly feel like there is no where else you would rather be than right where you are.

Patriotism is alive and well, and there is no better example than Mount Rushmore!

IMG_3438

A few facts about the carving.

  • The four presidents carved in the mountain are George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. These men were chosen to represent the first 150 years of American history and America’s cultural heritage.
  • Thomas Jefferson was originally started on George Washington's right. However, after 18 months they realized that it was not working. Jefferson's face was dynamited off and carved on the other side.
  • It took 14 years to complete Mount Rushmore.
  • The sculpture cost $989,992.32 to build.
  • There is a cave behind the carving called the "Hall of Records." It was intended to house the story of Mount Rushmore but was never completed due to lack of funding.
  • Gutzon Borglum was 60 years old when he began working on the monument.
  • Rushmore's granite faces tower over 5,500 feet above sea level.
  • The carvings are scaled to men who would stand 465 feet tall.
  • Each President's head is as tall as a six-story building.
  • Over 800 million pounds of stone was removed from Mount Rushmore during the construction.
  • Imagine climbing 506 steps to reach the top of Mount Rushmore-this was how many steps the workers had to climb each day!
  • The president's noses are 20 feet long, their mouths 18 feet wide, and their eyes are 11 feet across!
  • Did you know that Gutzon Borglum was a student of renowned French artist Auguste Rodin, and was one of America's most successful artists before even considering Mount Rushmore? His Mares of Diomedes was the first American work purchased by New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. He also has 5 statues on display at the U.S. Capitol Building.
  • an estimated 1/10 of an inch of erosion occurs every 1000 years and this was taken into account as the carving was being designed.
  • Here is an astonishing fact: no deaths occurred during the whole period of carving, just a few minor injuries.

This was what the original sculpture was supposed to look like upon completion.

IMG_3441

Before hitting the road the next morning we returned to the park for a few additional hours. We spend a wonderful Moring exploring the grounds.

We enjoyed a brief visit from a mountain goat as we drove back into the park and I shopped for the mandatory coffee mug and Christmas tree ornament.

Well all I can say for now is God Bless America!

It was a wonderful evening and an enjoyable morning, if you discount the 200 plus steep step up to the viewing platform below the carving. We defiantly got in our cardio.

Well there is only one vacation post left.

Next du du du du dududududu when you least expect up will be The Painted Desert and Petrified Forest.

Facebook: Pondering the meaning of life vs.. an ignored friend request

Inquiring mind want to know…if I have sent someone a friend request on Facebook and I see that they have recently accepted a request from someone on my friend list but have not responded to mine what does that say?

I logged out this morning pondering…

Do they not want to be friends with me?

Is this a cyber dis?

Why do I care? I could theoretically live the rest of my life and be very happy and never cross this person’s path ever again. It’s not like we even run in the same circles or have any outside connections beyond going to the same church. On rare occasions running in to each other when I am out and about grocery shopping or just running the occasional errand.

It feels like a dis. It feels like being ignored and I wonder in this age of social networking and instant messaging if we have lost something in the cyber translation.

Have we lost the art of friendship? Of being neighborly? Of being polite? The personal effort and time it takes to build a relationship with someone is a blessing. I know I have the amazing gift of having many very good and close friends in my life whom I value more than anything.

If you have an issue with your neighbor well, I know what Charles Ingalls would have done. Pa would have walked Half Pint over to the neighbors house and they would have had fresh baked cookies and milk at the kitchen table and discussed the issues between the two of them. Afterward they would have gone fishing down at the creek and all would be right with the word.

So I toss this question out there.

Is it a personal slight when someone you know ignores you on Facebook?

Is it that they are technologically challenged?

Or possibly is it more direct and they simply don’t want to be friends with me on Facebook?

Maybe they don't want to be friends with me in any form what so ever.

I have to wonder as I was having my daily visit to my Facebook page, do I offend?

Do I rub the wrong way?

Is it the way I dress?

Do I not have the right circle of friends?

Do I not live in the proper zip code?

Are my hore’s moaning? Which they are by the way in a HUGE way, so maybe I am just primed for taking this way to personally But sometime it seems to complicated and just down right to much work.

So what do y’all think?

I really would like to know!

Today I am longing for the simpler life of Little House on the Prairie, but even Walnut Grove had Nellie!

Today I am logging off of Facebook and moving on to something that edifies and uplifts.

Project 365 ~ Week 34

Sunday, August 15

I worked on my painting a bit! Sunday seems to be the only day I find I have the time to spend working on it! It has been so long since I picked up a paint brush, I am afraid I am my worst critic. I minute I think it is turning out ok then the next minute I am plagued with doubt and think it is hideous and want to paint over it and start again!  YIKES!

IMG_3998

Monday, August 16

I had a visit for my Little Muffin Head.

After breakfast we packed up the stroller and went to the park for a bit!

 IMG_4000

You need to use your powers of imagination for this one. Picture the most beautiful sweetest white tail fawn standing amongst the foliage. We stood gazing at each other locked in silence as I quietly reached for my camera which got tangled up in the diaper bag and then…poof…she/he was gone.

I was thoroughly excited that I had gotten as close as I did, Muffin Head on the other hand was unimpressed!

IMG_4007

After the park Muffin Head enjoyed herself.

In the Dog Crate…out of the Dog Crate, in the Cardboard Box…out of the Cardboard Box over and over and over again!

Tuesday, August 17

Oooooppppps!

Wednesday, August 18

Wednesday Night Suppers at church started back, which means so did my participation in Prayer Shawl Ministry. It was fun to see all my old knitting and crocheting buddies again.

IMG_4021

Thursday, August 19

I had fun Thursday morning with a few minutes of silly fun over at lifetime.com. It was  Hoot! and no I don’t think I will begin going red any time soon!

But it was a fun way to spend a few minutes!

Friday, August 20

Skoots1mom and I made a trip to the Goodwill. I came home with two pairs of jeans, a small table for my makeshift art studio/corner and a copy of “The DaVinci Code” for $1.50. I have never read it so I am looking forward to getting into it!

IMG_4030

Saturday, August 21

I was watching Ina make Maple Pecan Rice pudding the day before and I thought it looked really good!

Here is the recipe for the Rice Pudding, I however did not add the pecans, raisin or bourbon. I did not have any bourbon in the pantry and I wanted to try the pudding on it’s own without the raisins or pecan to see if I liked it enough to try the recipe again.

This was defiantly a keeper. I think I will be trying to alter the recipe to try and cut down on the fat a bit. I did alter the recipe slightly as I used whole milk and only two cups of half and half, not the specified 5 cups of half & half the recipe called for. In this cooks opinion the whole mike made for an equal substitute as it was just as creamy as I had hoped. I will just have to see if the recipe will hold up when the switch is made to 2% milk!

IMG_4034

That’s it for me this week!

Y’all head over to Sara’s and link up for more 365.

Blessings and remember I will try to stop by tomorrow to take a look at your week in pictures!

Random Dozen

1. What is your favorite fair/carnival food?

Wow! I can’t remember the last time I went to a carnival or a fair! If I have to pick I would say that nothing beats a fresh hot soft pretzel. However When the hubs and I were in San Francisco we did have some really amazing fresh from the fryer donut holes sprinkled with sugar and a nice hot cup of hot cocoa to go with them, they were really good!

2. Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?

Don’t we all! and no I’m not telling what it is!

3. What is your favorite gift to receive?

Anything that makes my life easier! The hubs always complains when I ask for things like a cheese grater for Christmas, but if I don't have one and  I need one then giving me one will really make me happy!

4. When was the last time you tried something new?

Strictly gastronomically speaking I have been on a mission to broaden my dinner time offerings. I have over the last few months ventured out in many different areas. Ox Tail Stew, Fried Plantains, Tomatillos, Fish which I am not a huge fan of anyway, but the hubs really likes it so I am learning how to cook it basically whatever pop’s out at me when I am wandering around at the H Mart!

5. What is your favorite and least favorite book genre?

Memoir, Mystery, Political Intrigue, Romance, Humor, Historical Fiction, Historical nonfiction, Chick Lit, Self-Help, Other

I give Historical Non-Fiction a big yawn, Self Help…no thanks, Memoir’s, well unless its about someone that I am really interested in then I’ll take a pass.

I love historical fiction, Romance, a good mystery or political intrigue. I will say that it has to be more on the suspense/thriller side and less on the long detailed strategic military battlefield descriptive side thought. Can you say skim…

6.Silver or Gold?

YES! Large quantities in the vault please! Aside from that I am SO not a jewelry person. Most days I forget to put in earrings!

7. What makes you sigh?

Good sigh…butterflies, hummingbirds, any flower in bloom, blue skies and white clouds, my morning coffee, the smile on my granddaughters face…

Bad sigh…forgetting to pay the power bill, forgetting to balance the check book, burning anything I put in the oven, making chicken and hockey pucks, dropping grandmas sugar bowl, remembering that I forgot something!

8. If you didn't know how old you are, how old would you claim you are?

In all honesty I thought I would be bothered by the overall progression of the aging process, but I have been pleasantly surprised. Don’t get me wrong there are numerous things about getting older that I could do with out, but trying to fight the process, well it just isn't in my nature. No fudging the old age for me! You wanna know how old I am, well your going to get the honest truth from me, gray hairs and all! I’ve earned them and they were hard won so I am not going to try to hide them nor am I going to discount the experiences that brought the wrinkles, sags and other lovelies about the process as well.

It is what it is.

9. Would you break a law to save a loved one? To protect a loved one?

Would I run a red light to get to the emergency room? Maybe if it wouldn't further endanger anyone else's life! Would I rob a bank to pay for something critical, probably not! Would I harm someone who was threatening someone I love, well that’s a very hard one. In all honesty I have no clue what I would do in that situation. Thankfully I have not been in any situations where such choices had to be made!

Thank You Jesus!

10. If you had to teach something, what would it be?

Hand’s down it would be cooking!

11. You're having lunch with 3 people whom you respect and admire. They begin to criticize a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend. What do you do?

I have actually been in a very similar situation. I very firmly but gently expressed that there are many things about situations involving other people that we as outsiders know nothing about. He who is with out sin please feel free to pick up the first stone…

12. Which of the 5 Love Languages is your prominent means of experiencing love?

Well I knew before taking the small survey that one of mine was Words of Affirmation but I was sort of surprised by Act of Service, but then not really. You wanna do something nice for me then unload the dishwasher or sort the laundry, and I have to brag and say that the hubs does many things that very much lighten my load. Most times it is out of his nearly compulsive need for neatness, but in the end the dishes get unloaded and the laundry get sorted and I just say thank you!

Well I am tossing my hat back in the ring with all the other Random Dozenettes! Wednesdays are very busy days for me now that I am facilitation Disciple so I will stop by and experience all your randomness on Thursday morning!

Y’all head over to Linda at 2nd Cup of Coffee and join in on the randomness!

See y’all tomorrow!

Redemption…

Love may smell like Peach Cobbler but redemption looks like this…

IMG_4019

Buttermilk Dumplings:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 to 1 cup buttermilk

For the dumplings:

Sift the dry ingredients together in a large bowl. In a small bowl, using a whisk, lightly beat the eggs, and buttermilk together; pour the liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold. Mix just until the dough comes together; the batter should be thick and cake-like.

Using 2 spoons, carefully drop heaping tablespoonfuls of the dumpling batter into the hot mixture. The dumplings should cover the top of the sauce, but should not be touching or crowded. Let the dumplings poach for 10 to 15 minutes until they are firm and puffy.

Y’all they were light and fluffy and very good!

Chicken and Hockey Pucks has been redeemed and so have I!

Project 365 ~ Week 33

If Project 365 were a test then this week I get a “C” at the top of my page!

Only five out of seven pictures this week :(

Monday, August 9

Monday was a big day in the life of mother daughter transitional points. It was the first day of High School. Adjusting to the 6:15 A.M. bus arrival is still a bit new, but all in all her first week is now behind us. The only snafu she had was an error in her schedule that was corrected on Thursday.

IMG_3968

That afternoon the last of my Disciple reference material arrived in the mail. I got them both for under $30.00 at amazon.com. I just love getting used books for a good price! The both arein very good shape, almost brand new. You can see a bit of damage to the cover of the Nelson’s Dictionaly but the Strong’s was brand new never been used and i snagged if for $5 bucks!

LOVE IT!

IMG_3973

Wednesday, August 11

It was orientation for my Disciple I Class. Did I take a picture of my room all set up…NO! Did I have my camera…YES! I have to file that one under the category of the old brain can only focus on one important thing at a time and getting through the morning without any bouts of peri-menopausal brain farts was my prime concern.

I did get to spend the evening with my son and his family for dinner.

The cardboard box was a big hit. It was not only fun to play in but it was fun to play on as well!

IMG_3988

Thursday, August 12

I took this picture not because I wanted to show you my Disciple preparations. I took it to actually share with one  of my Facebook friends. She and I worked together many years ago. I can’t remember who started the tradition but we would have a game of having a “Word for the Day”. We would look it up and then we would all try to incorporate that word in our conversations for that day. When I left that office as a going away gift she bought me a dictionary.

IMG_3991

IMG_3990

YES…that’s 1985….25 years ago!

As you can see by the binding it has been well used over the course of it’s long life.

Friday, August, 13

There were several of these big fat juicy, yes the hubs stepped on one so I can accurately testify to the adjective of juicy, caterpillars. They were attached to my parsley and generally munching it to the stalk.

They were dispatched in due fashion with a quick trip to the kitchen disposal. Their deaths were quick and hopefully painless.

IMG_3993

Saturday, August 14

Did y’all cover your books when you were in school?

I’m not sure why this is such an issue for me but when and if I get a new hardback book the very first things I do is give it an good cover with my favorite roll of brown craft paper. I find it wonderfully soothing to see my uniform stack of book all covered in the peaceful simple brown paper.

It fills me with something, I’m not sure what but it meets an inner need of mine to have things that I can control all in order. I can’t control much but I can have my books covered with neat tidy peaceful brown paper.

 IMG_3995

I have been on a thrifty roll these last few trips to the grocery store.

My four favorite words “Reduced For Quick Sale” have been my best friend over at the Ingles meat section. I picked up two package of Flat Iron Steaks, and no I am not sure what that means exactly. However I gave them a quick sear off in my new cast iron skillet and sauté up some onions and green peppers then pilled that all up on a toasted hoggie roll and topped it with fontina and provolone cheese and gave it a nice toast in the broiler.

The onions and peppers were sweet and tender, the meats was pink and juicy and the cheese was creamy and “meltedy” (that is an official cooking term NOT that I herd Paula use it not to long ago on one of her shows).

It was real good y’all! You can bet that I will be keeping my eye out for more of those flat iron steaks from now on!

IMG_3997

Well that’s it for me and this weeks photographic offerings! For more project 365 y’all head over to Sara’s and link up!

Thankful Thursday ~ My House is Quiet

My Disciple materials are spread out over the kitchen table awaiting me to begin for this weeks study. I am thankful for a successful orientation meeting yesterday. Our group is off to a great start and I am very optimistic that this study will be a blessing to all of us.

Before I dive in for this weeks study I find that as I sit in my quiet house I am thankful for several blessings.

My son had his family came for dinner last night. We don't get to see them nearly as much as we would like, but every opportunity I get to love on the grandbaby and them is a good one!

I got a culinary reprieve with multiple praises for the meat loaf I placed on the table for dinner, after the Dumpling Disaster it was a welcome sound to my ears.

Watching my granddaughter play in a big cardboard box. I cut two windows and a big door in the side and she had a wonderful time opening and closing the doors. It took her a few minute to warm up to the concept. After begin coaxed in by her aunt and daddy she finally decided that playing inside the box was a fun thing to do.

IMG_3981

I am enjoying the last few visit from the hummingbirds. The Cana lilies at my sunroom window are all but spent and in a very few days they will be all gone and with their disappearance the humming birds will head for other parts looking for their sustenance. I will miss them but I have been very thankful for the dally visits and their tiny iridescent bodies and their erratic flight pattern.

I am thankful to the quiet of the moment.

My body had not quiet adjusted to the new morning routine just yet. But getting an early start on the day has been a blessing.

I am thankful that the run-off elections are over, for now anyway and my answering machine will not get filled up each day with political solicitations.

Lastly I am thankful for the fact that it is Thursday. My small group meets tonight and that is always a wonderful way to end the day!

Blessings Y’all

Chicken & Hockey Pucks ~ A new family favorite…NOT!

How disappointing is it when you spend nearly the entire day working on a recipe and then you give it a try and it just is not any good?

And to top it off this is not the first time I have been disappointed by my attempt at chicken and dumplings. Maybe it’s a control issue I have, but once I fail at a recipe it seems to stay with me until I can figure out why or what I am doing wrong.

What is even more disappointing is that this is a Paula Deen recipe. Now I know that all great cooks have bad days but this recipe really missed the mark for me on not one but two separate occasions. I am now making the culinary decision to rip this one out of the old recipe binder never to grace the top of my stove ever again.

It all started with my four favorite words “Reduced For Quick Sale” in the poultry section of the meat counter. Two very nice fat whole chickens. I snatched up the two biggest ones and brought them home.

I vowed to give this recipe another try as the first attempt was less that satisfying. I modified the recipe a bit but stayed true to the dumpling recipe and re-read the directions very closely and followed them to the letter. As I sampled the dumplings I was again disappointed. They were rubbery, tough, thick and gummy like chewing on shoe leather. Mmmm Good…YUCK was the word for the day!

Y’all can you say “DISSAPOINTMENT!” I worked all day and in the end I think I am going to fish out the dumpling and at least try to save the chicken base.

In my research this morning I came up on a Tyler Florence recipe and his dumplings were very different from Paula’s. I will be giving this one a try as soon as my ego has mended, not to mention I need to let the families taste buds recover from this culinary crash and burn!

Does it bother you when something you have cooked does not come out as you wanted it to?

Any tried and true chicken and dumpling recipe you are willing the share would be greatly appreciated.

I may not sleep peacefully again until I can clear my conscious and my pallet of the experience!

How many chickens and or family members must suffer until I can place an edible bowl of Chicken and dumpling on the table.

The world may never know!

Blessings

Then and Now ~ School Daze

I am dazed and amazed.

It was just the “Then”of yesterday and today is the “NOW” and at 5:45 this morning to boot!

Then the  first day of Kindergarten…with pig tails and a red checked sun dress…

Logans First Day of Kindergarten

Now, the first day of High School…with mascara, eyeliner, 30 minutes to flat iron the hair and her coolest T-shirt and cutest shorts…

My how time flies…

The DD got up at 5:00 A.M. but I slept until 5:45 A.M., I think tomorrow I will set the alarm for 6:00 A.M. and hopefully she will decide that she does not need a full 75 minutes to achieve the desired teenage perfection.

It really is all about the hair y’all!

Project 365 ~ Week 32

Wasn’t it Sunday just a few days ago!

Well enough with the whining… here is my week!

Sunday, August 1

Check out these clouds!

IMG_3951 IMG_3949

Monday, August 2

Assembling my reference material for Disciple class. I am also waiting on a Bible Dictionary that I have ordered form Amazon.com.

  IMG_3953

Tuesday, August 3

The DD was dealing with a serious case of boredom, so she pulled out the cookbooks and whipped up some chocolate soufflé's. Note to self keep an eye our for soufflé ramekins at the goodwill or wal mart. They were tasty but not necessarily traditional soufflés as the only small individual baking vessels we had were these  French onion soup dishes.

Later that evening it was Movie Night!

After many months of procrastinating the Hubs finally figured out how to link the Wii up to the internet. Our new favorite thing these days is the “Watch Instantly” function offered by Netflix.

You just point and click and you get all the instant movies you can handle. There are some newly released movies but there is a huge selection of old television shows as well as lots of oldies, classics, action adventure, romantic comedies and on and on and on. For a movie lover like myself it has been problematic as I have to watch myself or I could rapidly loose myself to constant movie watching.

Love It! Love It! Love It!!

So far we have watched 2012, Angles and Demons, The Proposal and I have lots of really good old classics that I have stored away in my queue for a rainy day.

I spent the morning in hell…more affectingly termed High School Registration. If you would like to spend a few moment there yourself you can read about the fun here!

Friday, August 6

I was so traumatized by my experience of High School orientation that I think I just forgot to take any pictures.

Saturday, August 7

I hit the jack pot the other day at the grocery store. I picked up three packages of baby back ribs that had been “Reduced For Quick Sale” (my four favorite words) so I snatched them up and pulled out the old dry rub recipe. We tossed a few ears of corn some fresh zucchini and Portobello mushroom caps on the grill.

Y’all it was real good!
