Good Morning again

Image
I am sitting outside listening to the birds, drinking my coffee and wondering about the small quiet moments in life. The big worries in my life such as the state of our retirement and the security and safety of my children seem tempered with a hefty dose of God’s comfort and reassurance. I was reading the creation story this morning. The details, God's ability to speak all that surrounds me into creation and I take great comfort in that. Listening to the birds, the cool of the morning breeze, watching the sun play off the dew on the grass, tiny specks of brightness vibrate across the tops of the blades of grass. For right now everything is just fine.

I have had several thoughts rolling around in my head.

When events happen in the world that confound me. When I read something on facebook or see something on the news that makes me shake my head and wonder what is happening in the world. I ponder on how broken the world is. Then I am reminded of who has control over the world, the evil one. Scripture tells us that satan took Jesus to high place and offered him the whole world if only He would bow down and worship him. (Mat 4:8) Jesus was tired and hungry yet he stood on God's word and did what was right. We live in a broken world, there are so many people who live lives of dysfunction. Spread dysfunction from one generation to the next. Sacrificial gifts of life are squandered and I wonder why.     As I was going about my morning this heavy cloud of sadness was hovering over me, questions that will never be answered linger in my thoughts. Why do people do the horrible things that they do? Then I remember that I am a sinner as well. I struggle every day with overcoming the bad...

Move slowly, quietly and pray…

Friday Finding Beauty

Image
Today is Friday Finding Beauty hosted by Claudia over at Dipity Road . I had to make an unexpected trip out this morning so I grabbed the new camera and headed out the door to meet my husband. I am trying to be very intentional with my picture taking since I have jumped on the Project 365 bandwagon, but I thought for today I would share a few shots that I took when I stopped off at the park just before you get to my neighborhood. It has been so cold and yucky lately, but not today! It was very pleasant outside. The sky was a clear slate of cloudless blue and the temperature was just perfect. walking weather. Well God is so amazing. His unique ability for complete balance in all things is just so very God. Even in the midst of winter with all the trees gone dormant and resting up for the blossom of spring there was still an array of interesting flora to be had. You just had to look a bit closer to find it. Just look at all the amazing glimpses of his creation I came upon. ...

Biltmore: Part II…The Conservatory

Image
Just down these steps and a short walk from the main house is the Conservatory.   There were no restrictions on picture taking in there so having been restrained for the better portion of the day I had an absolutely wonderful time snapping away to my hearts content. It was just amazing inside. If you are a regular visitor here at my blog you will know how exacted I get over God’s creation, and boy was He showing of in big way inside the walls of that conservatory. Here is my tropical adventure in the middle of a winter wonderland! Y’all take my advice if you make a visit to Biltmore make sure you take the short walk down those steps and explore the Conservatory. To sum up our visit to Biltmore, it really made me think. On the way home my husband and I discussed how different life must have been, and the reality that we have no concept what it must have been like growing up with that sort of privilege. Muir Woods

Image
On our way back into San Francisco we stopped at Muir Woods . This was a suggestion from skoots1mom and I am so glad that we took her advice. One of the park guides told us that some of the trees date from as young as 200 years old to as old as nearly 1000 years old. There are moments when you experience God’s creation is such a powerful way that the only thing you can say is WOW! Words simply fail to adequately describe the experience of walking through those ancient redwoods surrounded by thick lush fern and the deep green mossy carpet blanketing the ground. It was like being transported back to a magical forest filed with fairy tale creatures.     Here is a five minute video of our time in Muir Woods, if you watch until the end there will be a very sweet and unexpected surprise, how cool is God! I have to confess that these last four pictures did not come from my camera. It was so late in the afternoon when we arrived at Muir Woods that the dense ...

Look what we found!

Image
It was an amazing discovery! Several weeks ago as skoots1mom and I were walking back to our cars after our morning work out our pioneering spirit took over. We had had a morning of rain and as we walked down to the clubhouse where the workout room is we both commented how soothing the sound of the creek was and how wonderful it would be to sit on the deck above us and listen to the babbling water and drink a cup of morning coffee. The area behind the clubhouse is very densely wooded and you can not see any evidence of the creek, you can certainly hear it but with the trees and thick ground cover  it remains very well hidden. We had finished out workout and were hiding back to our cars when through a very tiny crack in the foliage we could see something. We set off to do a bit of exploring. Within a very few minutes this is what we found! With all the rain we have had over that last few days I took the opportunity this morning before my workout to go back down to...

A Glimps of Heaven

Image
First I need to thank all of you who posted encouraging comments on my previous post. I can report that for the moment things are better. Life with a rebellious child has some very profound downs that can be very painful to endure. I am very thankful that I have faithful sisters who hold me up when my strength wanes. I am also more grateful than I can verbalize for our amazing Heavenly Father. You see, we went to Callaway Gardens yesterday. There were moments when the vistas before my eyes were almost too beautiful to comprehend. It was like being in heaven or receiving a very small glimpse of what it will be like. It was breath taking. I so needed to be filled up with God and His creation. Step by step along each path there was a new sight to see. At the end of our day we closed out visit at the butterfly house. It was full of people, but even with the crowds as I walked through the small enclosure with the butterflies darting around it was such a blissful experience. I felt the tears...
