Project 365 VS Computer Woe’s, Choir Practice and Arm Wrestling the DD and the Hubs for PC Time

Image
As I type it is approximately 8:30 pm. I attempted to get my 365 post done earlier this afternoon but the computer demons had inhabited my computer and it simply froze up at every key stroke. Then I had to drive the DD to Choir practice. I have been over the course of the last few years been gently suggesting the she join the youth choir so I thought that complaining now that she actually has joined was not the right thing to do. Then we get home and I had to wait my turn while said daughter checked her email for church announcements regarding her newly joined choir. Then I had to wait still further while the hubs checked his email. Y’all I MISS MY LAPTOP! So without further whining I move on to my 365 such as it is. Not my best attempt at capturing an image a day. I missed three days without so much as a snapshot. :( Tuesday, August 24 Just down from my house there is some property, it is fenced off from the road and there is a dilapidated barn, it is dilapidated in a

Mount Rushmore

What do ya do when you just can’t be random? What do ya do when you hate to leave things unfinished? What do ya do…you pull out the old vacation file and spend some time in Mount Rushmore ! Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water……another vacation post! A long time ago actually about two months in a land far far away on the road from Bozeman to South Dakota a family went on vacation…. We drove most of the day and arrived in South Dakota just before supper time. Our trip ticket was timed perfectly and we were able to check in to the hotel and get a quick bite of dinner and then head into the park for the nightly show. We had been advise by a good friend that the evening show was not to be missed. After having the experience I can state with all honesty that my friend was absolutely correct. If you want to boost your emotional quotient for American Pride then I highly recommend a visit to Mount Rushmore. If you are heading up to the carving then ple

Facebook: Pondering the meaning of life vs.. an ignored friend request

Inquiring mind want to know…if I have sent someone a friend request on Facebook and I see that they have recently accepted a request from someone on my friend list but have not responded to mine what does that say? I logged out this morning pondering… Do they not want to be friends with me? Is this a cyber dis? Why do I care? I could theoretically live the rest of my life and be very happy and never cross this person’s path ever again. It’s not like we even run in the same circles or have any outside connections beyond going to the same church. On rare occasions running in to each other when I am out and about grocery shopping or just running the occasional errand. It feels like a dis. It feels like being ignored and I wonder in this age of social networking and instant messaging if we have lost something in the cyber translation. Have we lost the art of friendship? Of being neighborly? Of being polite? The personal effort and time it takes to build a relationship with some

Project 365 ~ Week 34

Image
Sunday, August 15 I worked on my painting a bit! Sunday seems to be the only day I find I have the time to spend working on it! It has been so long since I picked up a paint brush, I am afraid I am my worst critic. I minute I think it is turning out ok then the next minute I am plagued with doubt and think it is hideous and want to paint over it and start again!  YIKES! Monday, August 16 I had a visit for my Little Muffin Head. After breakfast we packed up the stroller and went to the park for a bit!   You need to use your powers of imagination for this one. Picture the most beautiful sweetest white tail fawn standing amongst the foliage. We stood gazing at each other locked in silence as I quietly reached for my camera which got tangled up in the diaper bag and then…poof…she/he was gone.  I was thoroughly excited that I had gotten as close as I did, Muffin Head on the other hand was unimpressed! After the park Muffin Head enjoyed herself. In the Dog Crate…out

Random Dozen

  1. What is your favorite fair/carnival food? Wow! I can’t remember the last time I went to a carnival or a fair! If I have to pick I would say that nothing beats a fresh hot soft pretzel. However When the hubs and I were in San Francisco we did have some really amazing fresh from the fryer donut holes sprinkled with sugar and a nice hot cup of hot cocoa to go with them, they were really good! 2. Are you holding onto something you need to let go of? Don’t we all! and no I’m not telling what it is! 3. What is your favorite gift to receive? Anything that makes my life easier! The hubs always complains when I ask for things like a cheese grater for Christmas, but if I don't have one and  I need one then giving me one will really make me happy! 4. When was the last time you tried something new? Strictly gastronomically speaking I have been on a mission to broaden my dinner time offerings. I have over the last few months ventured out in many different areas. Ox

Redemption…

Image
Love may smell like Peach Cobbler but redemption looks like this…   Buttermilk Dumplings: 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 2 eggs 3/4 to 1 cup buttermilk For the dumplings: Sift the dry ingredients together in a large bowl. In a small bowl, using a whisk, lightly beat the eggs, and buttermilk together; pour the liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold. Mix just until the dough comes together; the batter should be thick and cake-like. Using 2 spoons, carefully drop heaping tablespoonfuls of the dumpling batter into the hot mixture. The dumplings should cover the top of the sauce, but should not be touching or crowded. Let the dumplings poach for 10 to 15 minutes until they are firm and puffy. Y’all they were light and fluffy and very good! Chicken and Hockey Pucks has been redeemed and so have I! Blessings R

Project 365 ~ Week 33

Image
If Project 365 were a test then this week I get a “C” at the top of my page! Only five out of seven pictures this week :( Monday, August 9 Monday was a big day in the life of mother daughter transitional points. It was the first day of High School. Adjusting to the 6:15 A.M. bus arrival is still a bit new, but all in all her first week is now behind us. The only snafu she had was an error in her schedule that was corrected on Thursday. That afternoon the last of my Disciple reference material arrived in the mail. I got them both for under $30.00 at amazon.com. I just love getting used books for a good price! The both arein very good shape, almost brand new. You can see a bit of damage to the cover of the Nelson’s Dictionaly but the Strong’s was brand new never been used and i snagged if for $5 bucks! LOVE IT!   Wednesday, August 11 It was orientation for my Disciple I Class. Did I take a picture of my room all set up…NO! Did I have my camera…YES! I have to file that

Thankful Thursday ~ My House is Quiet

Image
My Disciple materials are spread out over the kitchen table awaiting me to begin for this weeks study. I am thankful for a successful orientation meeting yesterday. Our group is off to a great start and I am very optimistic that this study will be a blessing to all of us. Before I dive in for this weeks study I find that as I sit in my quiet house I am thankful for several blessings. My son had his family came for dinner last night. We don't get to see them nearly as much as we would like, but every opportunity I get to love on the grandbaby and them is a good one! I got a culinary reprieve with multiple praises for the meat loaf I placed on the table for dinner, after the Dumpling Disaster it was a welcome sound to my ears. Watching my granddaughter play in a big cardboard box. I cut two windows and a big door in the side and she had a wonderful time opening and closing the doors. It took her a few minute to warm up to the concept. After begin coaxed in by her aunt and da

Chicken & Hockey Pucks ~ A new family favorite…NOT!

How disappointing is it when you spend nearly the entire day working on a recipe and then you give it a try and it just is not any good? And to top it off this is not the first time I have been disappointed by my attempt at chicken and dumplings. Maybe it’s a control issue I have, but once I fail at a recipe it seems to stay with me until I can figure out why or what I am doing wrong. What is even more disappointing is that this is a Paula Deen recipe. Now I know that all great cooks have bad days but this recipe really missed the mark for me on not one but two separate occasions. I am now making the culinary decision to rip this one out of the old recipe binder never to grace the top of my stove ever again. It all started with my four favorite words “Reduced For Quick Sale” in the poultry section of the meat counter. Two very nice fat whole chickens. I snatched up the two biggest ones and brought them home. I vowed to give this recipe another try as the first attempt was less

Then and Now ~ School Daze

Image
I am dazed and amazed. It was just the “Then”of yesterday and today is the “NOW” and at 5:45 this morning to boot! Then the  first day of Kindergarten…with pig tails and a red checked sun dress… Now, the first day of High School…with mascara, eyeliner, 30 minutes to flat iron the hair and her coolest T-shirt and cutest shorts… My how time flies… The DD got up at 5:00 A.M. but I slept until 5:45 A.M., I think tomorrow I will set the alarm for 6:00 A.M. and hopefully she will decide that she does not need a full 75 minutes to achieve the desired teenage perfection. It really is all about the hair y’all! Blessings R

Project 365 ~ Week 32

Image
Wasn’t it Sunday just a few days ago! Well enough with the whining… here is my week! Sunday, August 1 Check out these clouds! Monday, August 2 Assembling my reference material for Disciple class. I am also waiting on a Bible Dictionary that I have ordered form Amazon.com.   Tuesday, August 3 The DD was dealing with a serious case of boredom, so she pulled out the cookbooks and whipped up some chocolate soufflé's. Note to self keep an eye our for soufflé ramekins at the goodwill or wal mart. They were tasty but not necessarily traditional soufflés as the only small individual baking vessels we had were these  French onion soup dishes. Later that evening it was Movie Night! After many months of procrastinating the Hubs finally figured out how to link the Wii up to the internet. Our new favorite thing these days is the “Watch Instantly” function offered by Netflix. You just point and click and you get all the instant movies you can handle. There are some new
