Pineapple 101

Image
When we were on Oahu we went to the Dole Plantation . I watched a pineapple cutting demonstration and thought I would give it a try. How hard could it be? Right! Well it really was very easy! The first thing you do is firmly grip the crown and give it a good twist. It should give right away and then just come easily off.   If you want to try to grow your own pineapple all you need to do is strip away the bottom leaves from the crown and place it in a container filled with water. Sadly this is a lengthy process and the lady giving the demonstration said it would take up to 3 to 4 months for roots to form. Once the roots form you can move it to a pot and then it takes an additional 18 to 20 months for a fruit to grow….long time to wait right? Next you take a sharp knife and cut the pineapple lengthwise in half and then in quarters. Cut the hard fibrous core out of each quarter and discard. With a serrated knife you notch into both ends of the pineapple and then in a sawing m

Project 365 ~ Week 22

Well it is safe to say that life is now back to normal. The bloom of vacation has now faded and things are back to the regular same old same old. It was a relatively normal week around the Be Still and Know household, aside from a few Graduation Open House celebrations we attended and the last day of school for which the DD was very thankful for things have been very quiet.     Sunday, May 22 In lieu of the lengthy vacation we had just come off of we opted to spend our anniversary in a very low key kind of way. We did however through caution to the wind and the DD took her first go behind the wheel and actually drove on the street for the very first time. She manned the wheel all the way to church and then navigated us all safely back home again. Monday, May 23 I had to renew my member ship to Sam’s today and I loaded up on all my staple items. Tuesday, May 24 One way I can tell the economy is making a slow recovery is that these have started showing up in the mail again…DRAT

It was a Five Star Y’all…The Grand Wailea

Image
First let me share that never in a million years could we ever afford to stay at a place like this ever, ever, ever. However having a husband who travels on occasion does have it’s perks from time to time. Last year Hilton ran a promotion for a few months, for every night that you stayed in one of there facilities you received a voucher for one night free in any of there hotels…any of their hotels with no restrictions. The hubs racked up four of those puppies over the course of a few months. Y’all talk about swanky, fancy, ritzy and any other adjective you can think of….well all I can say is rich folks sure know how to do it up right and they do it up real good at the Grand Wailea…in a BIG way. We check in on afternoon of Friday, May 13th and then we had Saturday, Sunday and then we had to check out Monday morning for our flight back home. It was one of the most amazing places I think I have ever seen. When we got there the hubs did his usual thing and made fast friends with the

A funny thing happen on the way to the crater….

I need to back up a bit and return to the Big Island for just a moment because a funny thing happen on the way to the crater. Did y’all know that Diamond Head was a crater? Cause I didn’t, but I’ll get to that in a minute I need to set the stage a bit. One of the things I find most disturbing about the aging process is that it has a mind of it's own and at any given moment can rear it’s ugly head and cause an unpleasant or painful situation. It was several weeks ago when I had gone over to pick up Muffinhead. I took a nose dive, being the ever graceful person that I am, and landed right smack dab on my right knee ! Yea for me. Well it had nearly recovered, almost. I was just about getting to the point of being able to get down on my hands and knees without experiencing any pain but it was slow going. Well when we were at the Volcano National Park I had not anticipated exactly just how much walking would be involved. There was a LOT of walking. We ended up staying for the entire
