Three years, 528 post and counting…A Blogoversary Giveaway

Well it’s been three years today that I started blogging. I went back and read my very first post and it was short and to the point. I have just spent that last few minutes revisiting some of my older post. If you haven't done it in a while I encourage you to go back and spend a few minutes giving them a re-read. It really does give you a different perspective on where you were juxtaposed against where you are in the present. Looking back I remember feeling like every post I did had to be heart felt or poignant or deeply spiritual. I still have my moments of profound spiritual recognition, my heartfelt cries of “woe is me” but over the course of these three years so much has happen and not much has happen. Life goes on and it changes every day. My one regret is that I did not start this process sooner. How wonderful for all you young mom’s out there to have a chronicle of your lives as mom’s and to be able to look back and remember. I will say I am not sure if there was even s...

Project 365 ~ Week 7

Sunday, February 6 The DD was at church at a Youth Super Bowl Party, the Hubs was enjoying some hot wings and I started a new prayer shawl project. This is a super bulky homespun type yarn. I don't know what kind it is, it was some yarn that had been donated and all the labels had been removed. Really pretty colors though! Monday, February 7 The far end of the kitchen table is my study area. Monday and Tuesday morning are spent getting ready for my Wednesday morning class. Tuesday, February 8 I bought these flowers for our Sunday School Dinner Social. They are such a nice bright spot in the otherwise dreary winter week! No pictures on Wednesday, February 9       Thursday, February 10 We woke up to about 1 inch of snow. Thankfully it caused no major issues, surprisingly they even kept the schools open. By mid afternoon most of the snow in the back yard had all melted away. Skoots1mom always laughs at me when I say this, but Thursdays are m...

Just between you and me…

I just paid hard earned money to have my daughters hair cut to look like the bottom of a worn out whisk broom!

What do Piranha's and my small group have in common?…or…Keys, Keys…who’s got the Keys

I can think of various choice adjectives to describe the aging process. For me it has been a surprising journey rather like stepping upon a mine field wearing a blind fold. You just never know when the next unexpected explosion will happen. If you are a regular visitor you know that Skoots1mom and I are very good friends. She and I are in the same accountability groups among other things. We have know each other for a very long time. Getting older at time feels like membership into an exclusive club, especially for those of us who struggle to maintain some level of hormonal balance, most times I fail miserably but I will say that the theory of “Strength in Numbers” has some validity. No one can sympathies more to the emotional and physical trauma of hot flashes, lettuce moments, insomnia and forgetfulness better than someone who is down in the trenches right along with your. However I have read stories of certain species turning on each other in extreme circumstances. I saw a disco...

Sunday, January 30 We had communion at church today! The tradition and the reality of the act, do this in remembrance of me…it is always a humbling moment to know that we still have the opportunity to honor Christ and his act of sacrifice in this sacred way! No pictures on Monday, January 31  Tuesday, February 1 I felt like kicking it up a notch in the kitchen tonight. Apricot Chicken made with my homemade Apricot Glaze with caramelized red onion, dry sherry and served over herbed rice. It was really good y’all! Wednesday, February 2 I finally finished my latest Prayer Shawl. I will be truing this project in on Wednesday, but I always like to get a few pictures before it gets sent off into the world. Thursday, February 3 Laundry, cleaning, dusting. sweeping… Friday, February 4 My Sunday school class came for a dinner social tonight. My contribution was Paula Deen’s Strawberry Delight with a Be Still and Know twist.     The recipe called for 8 ounces of ...

Thankful Thursday

Image
I’m keeping it simple today and my small bit of thankfulness is that I have finally settled on what desert I will fix for my Sunday School social tomorrow night. Given that my oven has been less than reliable these past few months I have opted to do a no bake desert. I found a recipe in one of my Paula Deen Cook books for a Strawberry trifle and it sound super yummy. So one decision down and now all I have to do is get my house ready. I have done some major clutter clean up today and all I have to do tomorrow of sweep and dust so I am in good shape.   I am thankful for peaceful non eventful Thursday's filled with the putting things where they belong, flipping through my cookbooks and folding laundry. I read a book once a long time ago about finding beauty and blessing in the simple things we do every day. Well my day was full of quiet, simple things and for that I am thankful! Blessings R

Ridiculousness…my tax dollars at work

Some of you may remember that my daughter had to have major surgery in May of 2009. It was a very difficult process of pain, recovery and defiantly a new path for this mom to be sure. Thankfully now all is well. The DD had her one year check up with the orthopedic surgeon several months ago and he has given her a clean bill of health. The surgery was successful in stopping the progression of the curvature of her spinal column and in Orthopedic terms this means they have cure her Scoliosis. Jesus is awesome and so is our orthopedic surgeon, not to mention a total cutie patutti as well, but I digress! In the months that followed the DD recovery one of the precautions we put in place was to get a second set of books for her to have at home. She was not allowed to carry anything heavy for the first year after surgery. This was not a big deal the doctor issued a medical note and I went and picked up the extra set of books. Wouldn't it be great if that was the end of the story. I had...

Happy Monday…

I need to be working on my Disciple, my mind is a bit unfocused, random thoughts keep going through my head. In the span of a few minutes on the news this morning I heard a report about a woman in Florida who shot and killed both her children because they were mouthy and rude to her and then they ease into a report on the upcoming academy awards, doesn't this sound a bit incongruent to you? The unrest in Egypt, things seems so very bad in the world all the time and I just have to wonder what in the world in happening. Then there are moments during Sunday worship when you feel so filled up with how great God really is and all the harshness of the secular environment we live in is pushed aside for a few moments. So how do you balance your own personal life against the world view. How do you balance defining your area of service against trying to maintain a household and live with in your means? How do you sleep though the night without waking ever few minute drenched in sweat? ...

Sunday, January 23 I have a confession to make, it’s not an earth shattering one, it’s more like whining really, but one of the things I really don’t like about my house is the view from the back patio. It isn’t very picturesque. In a few years when the backyard landscape begins to fill out and some of the trees get a bit bigger I am hopeful the view will improve. Until then I get to look at the rooftops of houses and the weed covered hill just down the street. However there are mornings when I do get to have moments like this. I’m usually the first one up on Sunday mornings and as I was enjoying my coffee the backyard began to turn this wonderful color of pink. I grabbed the camera and stepped outside. Only God could mix up a color like this first thing in the morning! No pictures on Monday, January 24 Tuesday, January 25 After a full morning of preparation for my Disciple Bible Study on Wednesday I was ready for a break. It was a bit chilly so I fixed myself a Chai La...
