Flashback Friday ~ When I grow up…

Image
What did you want to be when you grew up? I don’t recall what I wanted to be when I was a little girl growing up. I do however remember very vivid memories of wanting to be an artist during my adolescent years. I was very involved in my art classes in high school and even toyed with the idea of joining the drama club. I think I may have even attended a few meetings but rapidly found out that perusing a dream to be a stage performer was not the direction I wanted. I had visions of becoming a famous artist and living in a loft in some bohemian flavored urban area with lost of unusual artsy type friends. Why did you want to be that, and did you do it? When I look back it from my adult perspective now I think I wanted to be an artist because it was so far removed from anything that had to do with my normal life. It was also one of the only things I excelled at. I was not a Rhodes Scholar or anything. I struggled with maintaining even average grades in high school. Livin...

Snarling, anxious and just down right overwhelmed…

Image
Well I have had a few hours to calm myself down.  I got a hefty dose of my tax dollars being spent in the most inefficient means possible this morning. High School Registration. Oh My Stars! Now I am not a rocket scientist however I do believe I could logically lay out the campus of a high school in a more efficient manner than the county system we have in place. I will also say that whoever published the map of the current layout of the building should get a big fat ‘F” in my book. PLUS, I would seriously like to know who’s brilliant idea numbering the rooms with decimals is? Seriously what wrong with good old fashioned numbers. I think I am capable of figuring out how to get to room 507  without the aid of a decimal. I can even read a map if it’s oriented properly, which this one wasn’t. I have never in all my born days experience anything as confusing or ridiculous as the layout of the high school that the DD will be attending. As soon as I can form a cohere...

A waterfall, wildflowers and poison ivy…

One of the amazing things about the body of Christ is it’s ability to extend beyond the boundaries of your church home. On a mission trip several years ago the team that my husband and daughter were on from our church got paired up with a smaller team from South Dakota. Over the past several years our church team and the South Dakota team have successfully worked together on many different mission projects in Mexico. The leader of the South Dakota team had recently made a move back to his childhood home of Bozeman Montana. Upon hearing of our vacation plans he graciously extended an invitation for us to come and spend some time with him in his home in Bozeman Montana. After having endured the accommodations at the Stage Coach Inn for about as long as we could, we made the decision to alter our plans a bit. After breakfast, or I should say after chocking down what they thought passed for breakfast we sat and discussed our plans. We came to the decision that after three days expl...

Project 365 ~ Week 31

Image
Well as far diligence and consistency for the week go I have to say it was not one of my better attempts. I missed three days this week.  The perils of summer I guess! No pictures on Sunday, July 25 Monday, July 26 We had major thunderstorm activity on Monday. The trees in my yard were bent down nearly sideways. My lawn furniture was knocked over by the heavy winds. There were moments when the rain was coming down so strongly that when it hit the windows across the back of the house it sounded like someone throwing stone against the panes. Sorry no pictures on Tuesday, July 27 either! No excuses …just no pictures! Wednesday, July 28 The Black-eyed Susan's have finally started to bloom in the front yard. The are not very big but in another season of growing they will eventually fill out the whole front bed. The purple cone flowers are giving off a few blooms as well as providing a pleasant afternoons rest for this sweet little insect fellow! And yes Mr. Whatever...

Flashback Friday

Did your family attend church when you were growing up? That would be a BIG NO! I have said before that one of my deepest regrets is that my mom did not lay that foundation for my sister and me when we were growing up. I look back now on those day and I am sad for those little girls and sad for all three of us. I think of the turmoil and the anxiety of those times and I wonder how it might have been different if I had know who Jesus was. Let me just say that there is a big “BUT” in this situation. When I think of how difficult it was for us growing up and the decisions and the choices I made as a result of how things were I can’t help but wonder would I be the same person if had I been removed from those difficult situations. The reality of the matter is that we learn our most valuable lessons from our difficult times. What are your earliest memories of church? I do remember going to church on occasion. We went on Christmas and Easter once and a while but that was it. I d...

God is in the details… Thankful Thursday

Image
Sometimes ya just have to give God the credit… Another example of how God has even the very tiniest detail of our lives covered. On Thursday afternoon during Campmeeting I went in search of some toilet paper for our cabin. The Campground care take handed me over two rolls of this! This Heavenly Bathroom Tissue was yet another shinning example of how God covers every detail of my life with His provision. Coincidence…maybe! God-incidence absolutely! On this Thursday I am very thankful for God Provision and His attention to detail! Y’all head over to Greg’s General Store for more Thankful Thursday Blessings R

Yellowstone National Park – Part Two: A Little Geyser Action

Image
Cloudscapes, Geysers and Rebirth. Yellowstone was the epitome of so many different examples of how great and creative God really is! The color of the sky was out standing. I don’t know what the difference is but I can tell you that the sky is not this blue in my part of the country. The cloudscapes were just amazing! The Continental Divide snakes around in Yellowstone and in the days that we were there we crossed over it several dozen times.  Every time we passed over a section of the continental divide I could not help but think of the pioneers of centuries ago who braved the wilderness to explore parts unknown. Being the true blue southerners that we are, in typical southern fashion, we lost out heads at the sight of snow. Snow y’all! Still on the ground and in late June. I am not sure what I found more fascinating. The wildlife or the geysers. I was not sure what I was expecting but I found all the geysers to be just amazing. At nearly every t...

Project 365 ~ Week 29 and 30

Image
At least I think it’s week 29 and 30. My mind is a fuzzy blur with all the activity over the last few days. Since I was not able to post this past Sunday my 365 for this week will be a “two-fer” so hang on for an extended edition of 365. Sunday, July 11, We have been in the process of dong some organizing at least where the garage and back yard are concerned. A few project 365’s ago I shared with you about the installation of a garden shed in our back yard. Well with the addition of the new storage space in the back yard we have been able to do some purging in the garage as well. We spent the day clearing out the garage and now it actually looks like a garage. I share all this with you not to show you a picture of how great our garage looks now but to give you a look into my latest new project which came as a result of all our cleanliness. When I was in high school and in my younger days of my marriage before the children came. I use to paint quite a bit. I had a very large ...
