Project 365 ~ Week 4

I closed out the week with two funerals in two days y’all! That will take the wind out of your sails for sure. However mourning the loss of two special people has a way of putting things into perspective in your own life as well.

I spent a good bit of time at the pottery studio this week. I am looking forward to the next glaze firing so see if any of my pieces will bear good fruit…

Sunday, January 20

My fall/winter garden is beginning to wane but I was able to harvest a very nice batch of Swiss Chard. It is cleaned and waiting to be cooked in the frig.

Monday, January 21

The girlchild had ordered a book from our favorite book store and I had to swing by and pick it up on Monday afternoon.  I have been having this nagging thought that I needed to find some new devotional material, sometimes you just need a bit of fresh air after you have worked your way through all the older devotional books in your stack if ya know what I mean.

As I was wandering around the book store I spied this just sitting on he shelf.

IMG_1397IMG_1398

I picked it up and then I set it back down. I wandered around for a bit more. I always forget which color sticker are for new books and which color is for the used books…..when I was in the line to pick up the book the the girlchild had ordered I saw the sigh at checkout reminding customers that the green stickers were for the used books. Plus if you have traded in old books you earn store credits, of which I have about a billion store credits AND if you  have store credits you get all used book at HALF PRICE…needless to say I quickly stepped out of line and hurried back and snatched this puppy right off the shelf…can you say score!!!!

$6.00!!!!!!!!!

I love that the front half is for the morning and then you flip it over and the back half is for the evening.

LOVE THIS!!!!!!!

Tuesday, January 22

We have started going to the workout room on Monday’s, Tuesday's and Friday’s when the Hubs gets home from work…we all go, the Girlchild included.

We had finished up and we were all getting out of the van, she was in the back seat and me in the front, she placed her had on the door jam just as I was closing the door…..can you say SMASH and OUCH!

IMG_1399

It was a bit swollen but thankfully she only got slightly nicked by the door as she was able to almost pull her fingers away in time…she survived. The last time she got her fingers caught like that she was a toddler!

IMG_1400

No pictures (except for drying clay….) on Wednesday, January 23 or Thursday, January 24

But I will have some completed pieces to share soon…..I hope!

Friday, January 25

Diligence pays off or maybe I’m just hard headed y’all!

We went to San Francisco in 2009. We had some amazing food and enjoyed the famous Sourdough Bread. I came home determined to try to duplicate the sourdough. Well it has taken me five years of trying but I think I have finally figured it out. I made a batch last week and it was light, soft and very tender. It had just the right consistency and had just the right tang to it.

In my humble opinion I don't have it right until I can duplicate the recipe the exact same way twice. Once I am able to get a recipe to turn out multiple times with the same result then I am good to go.

I can officially say that I think I am good to go.

This is the second loaf that I have done and I have maintained the same texture, flavor and result…so after five years I think I've got this sourdough thing figured out!

IMG_1401

That was my week, I hope you all are keeping warm and having a great weekend!

Wednesday Hodgepodge…

1. The popular saying, 'All is fair in love and war' is originally credited to English writer John Lyly.  Is he right?

Hmmmm…..I guess my initial answer is no. From a biblical perspective there is a very clear directive to do what is right in all things. Love or war, my actions should always line up with what God’s word tells me. However living in the world I am often challenged with situations where I fail to do the right thing.

The reality of war is very different from the reality we all live in, so never having been in a war or lived through a war I can understand that at times things need to be done that may go against what is popular or right in favor of protection or safety.

Where love is concerned, thankfully I no lo longer have to worry about perusing love, having been happily married for these thirty long years. This however does not eliminate my responsibility to be fair, compassionate, selfless, respectful and loving.

2. Are you a cereal eater?  What's your favorite kind?

My current favorite is the Multi Grain Cheerios, but I don’t think I have met a cereal that I didn’t like!

3. A five year old in Pennsylvania was recently given a ten day school suspension for talking with a friend about shooting one another with a Hello Kitty Bubble gun (the gun blows bubbles).  She did not have the gun with her at school.

A psychological evaluation was also ordered and the incident was recorded on her permanent record.  The suspension was later reduced to two days and her parents are suing to have the incident removed from her file. Your thoughts?  (If you missed the story click here for details).

My thoughts….absurd, ridiculous, idiotic…I am constantly shaking my head at the levels of ridiculousness I see on a daily basis as the secular world fully embraces that lack of common sense in it’s desire to be politically correct. Get real and let focus on real problems not Hello Kitty Bubble Gun’s…seriously!

4. Whatever happened to common sense?

5.  January 23rd is National Handwriting Day, billed as a day to reacquaint yourself with a pen and pencil.

Do you like your handwriting?

Most of the time I am happy with my handwriting, but then I actually learned how to write cursive in school, unlike most of the young people who have never learned how. I had to actually Google cursive handwriting for my daughter a few years ago so I could show her how to make certain letters in cursive.

Do you prefer to print or write in cursive?

I think I use an equal amount of both cursive and print. It just depends on what I am writing and if I am in a hurry. Also I notice that there is a great change in my hand writing depending on my mood. You can look at the pages of my journal as evidence and see my handwriting change with the current mood I am in…..

This date was chosen because its the birth date of John Hancock.

What's the last thing you signed your name to?

A credit card receipt at the book store yesterday…..

6. Speaking of John Hancock...ever been to Philadelphia?

Do you have any desire to visit the city of Brotherly Love?

I think our next vacation may be a trip up to that area. We have been talking about visiting the New England area, touring Washington DC, Virginia, New England, Pennsylvania and other states in that area. I am not sure if it will happen this year…but it’s on the list. Visiting all the historic sites,  ideally we would do it in the fall to also take advantage of the awesome foliage that time of year….

7.  Share something funny you've heard a child say.

One of the advantages of caring for my granddaughter in the mornings is gleaning all those wonderful words of wisdom that can come from the mouths of babes.

One morning Muffinhead was running around the house and she and the dog were having a wonderful time. They come to a stop and she skips over the the dog and reaches out her hand with her finger pointed…..”Tag, you’re it!” and then spins and runs in the other direction.

At three and a half I love how she has no barriers in her imagination to fully embrace the possibility that the dog knows exactly what she is saying and is ready and willing to engage with her. She has in-depth conversation with the dog on a daily basis…I love that about her!

8.  Insert your own random thought here, life is unexpected...

I learned that a sweet friend of mine died unexpectedly yesterday. That same day I got a call from one of my oldest and dearest friends, she and I have been friends for over thirty years. Her grandmother who recently celebrated her 100th birthday passed away yesterday as well. One passing was unexpected and upsetting the other a welcome relief with the knowledge that Mama is no longer suffering the pain of old age and is finally at peace. I know that both of these precious ladies are now celebrating with Jesus in heaven but for us that are still wafting for the reunion it is bitter sweet in the knowledge that we have many years or maybe tomorrow to wait for ours.

Each day brings something new, sometimes it bring sadness, sometime happiness but each day is always an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus. I am learning as I get older that the barriers of sharing what I believe and who I believe in are falling away. I am more willing, not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I am not so worried about what others will think.

Mama lived a long and happy life, my friend Barbara left us too soon. It really is food for thought.

Making the most of every day and trying not let moments slip by without being fully present…

Y’all enjoy your Wednesday! For more WH fun head over to Joyce’s and link up!

My House is Quiet: Random Nothingness….

I am working on my second cup, the laundry has been sorted and I making a plan for the rest of the day. Muffinhead is at home and the Girlchild is still sleeping because there is no school today…MLK holiday.

I am feeling the need to wrap my hands around some clay today, I may see if the Girlchild wants to go with me…clay provides a wonderful creative distraction, because I am sooooooooooooooooo not interested in what Michelle Obama is going to wear nor the new bangs.

Downton Abbey, have y’all seen this show. The Hubs was firmly fixed in front of the television watching a marathon on the American President’s yesterday so I pulled out my Kindle and watched the first episode on Netflix, aside from one scene of homosexuality I thought it was a good show. Have y’all been watching this show. I had to make the decision to several seasons ago to stop watching several of my favorite shows  when they began to glorify lifestyles that go against God’s standard. I am uncertain that I want to get involved in this show only to find that I need to stop watching…so if you have been watching this show let me know what you think??

We may make a stop at the Christian bookstore today as well. The Girlchild is in need of a devotional and I am looking for one as well. Any suggestion for devotional material would be welcome today as well.

It seem I need a good bit of help this morning.

I tried to go to Starbucks yesterday and it just wasn’t happening. I was on my way to pick up the Girlchild from choir practice so I thought I would pop in and try the new Blonde Roast they have been advertising. The Kroger that is less than 1/2 a mile from my house has a Starbucks so I made a detour. I walk in and there are about four people in line, decisions, decisions! I stood in line for a few second and then determined that the wait was not worth it and left. I got back in my car and since I was closer to the highway I jumped on there rather than taking my regular route. It was bumper to bumper, yea for me. Then I get off the highway and immediately find myself waiting on a train. Do you ever wonder how much time you spend waiting…all because of a cup of coffee. Then I found myself feeling a bit ticked off at all those people at the Starbucks who had the nerve to all want coffee at the precise time as I did. Then I was mad at Starbucks for only having two people on staff, but then they usually only have two people on staff. It a small in store kiosk…reality bites sometimes! I retuned home coffeless and soothed my frayed nerves with a hot cup of herb tea. Not exactly how I planned to spend the afternoon but sometimes ya just have to go with the flow, like I could do anything about long lines, bumper to bumper traffic and trains…..

I told ya….no great theological revelations, pictures of what I had for dinner or Muffinhead sweetness.,just a lot of ho hum nothingness.

Project 365 ~ Week 3

I only missed one day this week, and that was Sunday!

Here is my week!

Monday, January 14

It’s that time again. Getting the new calendar for the refrigerator filled out for the new year.

IMG_1377

Tuesday, January 15

This is what I call turning lemons into lemonade.

What happens when you unintentionally go all the way down to the bat, that’s the round disk you place your clay on so it can be easily remove from the wheel head. When you go all the way down to the bat you have to start over because you do not have enough clay left for the bottom of your pot, or it’s time to move to Plan B, which turns into a small pedestal for a shallow dish.

I’m thinking maybe a candy dish?????

100_1605

What color should I glaze it y’all????

Wednesday, January 16

I have been working on modifying one of my sourdough recipes so it will work in my new food processor. I think I may have gotten the proportions right. I have yet to slice this one up yet so the jury is still out. My normal recipe makes two large loaves and the food process or is only big enough to make one loaf at a time.

IMG_1383

I finally finished up this pray shawl project Tuesday evening but it was to dark for pictures. It has been lingering in my yarn basket for a very long time. I do love these colors.

IMG_1378

Thursday, January 17

Hummus on whole wheat Ritz crackers for lunch!

IMG_1386

I had an entire loaf of Challa just sitting in the bread basket. It was a bit less than fresh. It was a hardship but we suffered though some French toast for dinner.

For the record…homemade challah makes for some really good French toast y’all!

IMG_1390

Friday, January 18

There were a couple of leftover slices of bacon from our dinner last night so I I treated myself to a BLT for lunch!

IMG_1391

My friend Ann, the lady that I do the pottery with found herself with an extra ticket to a play at our local theater. She asked and I said yes. I joined her and a few of her friends for dinner out and then an evening at the theater. Laa tee daa for me y’all!

We had great seats in the balcony, this was the set up on stage before the show started. It’s not a HUGE theater but it is a very nice one. The tickets can be a bit on the pricy side so I was more than happy to avail myself of an offer of a free ticket!

Let’s just say I had a wonderful time with friends, the dinner before was very good, the fellowship was great…the play, well I am glad that I did not actually pay money for the ticket. It was good but not great! Funny but not memorable, and a bit on the strange side. Over all it was a good time on a Friday night!

And yes the name of the play was….BOB.

100_1609

Saturday, January 19

It was 20 degrees this morning when I opened my eyes. The backyard was encased in a thin coating of frost.

IMG_1392

When it warmed up a bit the the Hubs took the Girlchild out for some parallel parking practice. Her driving test is scheduled for next month. On the way home they stopped at Starbucks. The Girlchild has had a few Starbucks cards burning a whole in her wallet since Christmas and she brought me a Chai Latte y’all!

IMG_1394

That’s me week! I hope everyone is having a wonderful first few weeks of the year. I am still contemplating a few more organizational changes but have not followed through with any of them yet. Pondering if I want to or not….

Wednesday Hodgepodge…

Joining the hodgepodge fun today!

1. Lake Superior University has once again published a list of words/phrases they think should be banished from the Queen's English...here's the list for 2013 - fiscal cliff, kick the can down the road, double down, job creators/creation, passion/passionate, yolo (an acronym for you only live once), spoiler alert, bucket list, trending, superfood, boneless wings, and guru

Which of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why. Go here to read more about how the words were chosen.

How can I pick…they are all worthy candidates. I could go the rest of my life without ever hearing the phrase fiscal cliff again, but I think the winner for me would have to be boneless wings….cause there simply is no such thing. Let’s just call it what is is, a chicken nugget!

2.  When was the last time you rode a train?  Where did you go?

The only train in our vicinity is the rapid transit system for metro Atlanta. I rarely take advantage of it living beyond the metro area. However probably the last time I did take the train was to go to the airport. It really is very convenient. It’s a short 15 to 20 minute ride to the station and then the train takes you straight to the airport, no fuss no muss! I had to really think about when the last time I took the train was…yup a few years back, December 2008. I flew out to meet my husband in Puerto Rico for a long weekend. You can click here to read about my adventure with airport security and see a few pictures of my trip.

3. Bagels-yay or nay?  Favorite 'flavor'?  Favorite topping?

YAY! Panera makes an awesome Cinnamon Crunch bagel, toasted with cream cheese…YUM!

4.  'Tis the season of awards shows...if you could star in a movie already made which one would you choose?

I love movies but don’t watch the award shows. Hmmmmm, my movie pick….probably any character for Steel Magnolia’s. Who wouldn't want to be Ouiser Boudreaux, Annelle, Shelby, M’Lynn, Truvy or my favorite character Clairee.

5. The move towards single gender classrooms has been making the news in recent months....what say you?  Do you think kids perform better if separated by gender and are taught differently or is that discrimination?  If you're a parent, is this something you'd support in regard to your own children?

Having experienced situations with both my children that required modifications in how they approached certain things in school, I can fully support any changes that embrace the differences in how children learn. One size does not fit all when you are dealing with children. It is simply unrealistic! In my opinion, to expect all children to learn in the same way just makes no sense. If children learn better in a gender specific environment then I say go for it. Set the political correctness aside and look to what is the best learning environment for the children.

6. What's your favorite thing about staying in a hotel?

What’s not to like? Knowing that someone else is going to make your bed, pickup your wet towels, actually having clean towels all the time, getting into a freshly made up bed every night…it’s a good thing y’all. In a perfect world we could all stay in a five star hotel all the time. The Hubs and I had the opportunity to experience the attentive care of a five star hotel when we were in Hawaii…IT WAS AWESOME! You can click here for a glimpse into the five star treatment….

7. Do you have a 'word' for 2013?  What's the story behind your choice?

Unending transition…wondering when the hormonal mood swings, the hot flashes, the ebbs and flow will finally come to an end. It’s been longer that I anticipated and I am past ready for things to settle down…..

8.  Insert your own random thought here, normally I check out the WH on Tuesday like all y’all, however today I did not get to it until this morning. It was a cold rainy day yesterday and it continues today. I spent the day knitting and experimenting with a new bread recipe.

I had a cozy day, enjoying some time sipping some hot herbal tea, working on a new prayer shawl project and trying to reformulate a sourdough bread recipe to work with my food processor. It was a GOOD day y’all!

I needed a day off y’all!

How do you spend a rainy day?

That’s if for me for this week! Y’all head over to Joyce’s and link up and visit a few of the other WH folks!

Project 365 ~ Week 2

Well the new year is off to a slow start. I have been in a bit of a hormonal funk for the last few days so I have spent most of my time just trying to keep my emotional roller coaster to myself and trying not to inflicting my mood on anyone else!

Hormones aside it was a 50/50 week for me as far as getting a shot each day!

Sunday, January 6

Here is my latest project.

It was the Great Reshuffling of 2013!

You know all those serving piece that you have but only need once or twice a year. Also I have several pieces that belonged to my grandmother, well they had been taking up space in my kitchen for a very long time.

Now I have gotten them OUT of my kitchen, which in turn freed up a lot of space.

I am much happier with the set up in my pantry and kitchen now.

Shuffle #1…..All my platters and trays and other miscellaneous serving pieces were stored in this cabinet in the dinning room. Once it was empty I then moved all my cocktail paraphernalia into it’s new home….

IMG_1372

Shuffle #2…Once the cocktail ingredients were moved from the pantry it freed up almost the entire bottom shelf in the pantry…

IMG_1365

Shuffle #3…..More serving pieces were removed from my fake butlers pantry, it really is supposed to be a broom closet but who needs a whole closet for a broom. Now I have room for all my plastic pitchers, my other weird miscellaneous stemware and smaller bowls…

IMG_1367

Shuffle #4…and now all my serving pieces have a new home upstairs in the bonus room! I don’t have to go digging around in the depths of a cabinet or in search of a box to get the things I want!

I picked up several small sets of wire shelving. I wanted one long shelving unit but with my space requirements these smaller ones worked out better. Three across just filled up the space perfectly.

IMG_1329

Life is good!

Does this happen to you! You get all your Christmas decorations packed up and put away in the attic and then you find something that was left out! It happens to me almost every year. I was doing a bit of a pick up and I found this small basket tucked behind all of Muffinhead’s toys. It’s the basket that has all the Manger stuff in it! Now to find a place to store it until next Christmas….cause I'm not getting back up in the attic!

IMG_1332

Tuesday, January 8

It was Tea Party time again! I love having tea with my sweet Muffinhead y’all!

IMG_1352

Thursday, January 10

My “Four Favorite Words” are “Reduced For Quick Sale”, well you can be sure that I will be keeping my eye out for more of the Beef Shanks that I picked up when I saw my favorite red stickers in the meat department at the grocery store.

They reminded me of a beef short rib or an ox tail and with the reduced price I paid just over a dollar for each pack. I picked up six packages. I beer braised them in my crock pot with carrots and onions, then made a gravy and served them over egg noodles. I used three for this recipe and I have three packages tucked away in the freezer…I LOVE a good deal!

Can y’all say YUM!

It was delicious!

IMG_1361

Saturday, January 12

I have had hummus before, but I have never made any. I was a bit shy of ingredients, I did not have any parsley and it was a bit light on the cumin but over all it turned out really good! I think I have a new favorite afternoon snack in my future!

IMG_1375

What’s your favorite thing to make in a food processor? Now that I have a brand new one I am looking for different things to make with it!!!!

That was my week! I hope everyone is having a good start to the new year.

Y’all head over to Momma Fran’s  and link up!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What is ONE thing or area in your home or life you hope to report is completely organized when 2013 draws to a close?

Well I know what the area is, however I am doubtful that it will get addressed. I have a HUGE issue with my household accounts. The process of paying and filling my bills. They all get paid yet there always seems to be a huge stack of miscellaneous bills, notices and etc just laying around the computer.

It makes me nuts…..

Do you  have a plan to make it happen?

Not really, I wish I did. It is a hot button for me. I try to stay ahead of it but sadly it seems like I am lost in an ocean of invoices and other forms of paper. All the bills get paid, it’s what happens to them after I have sent the money off. My filing cabinet is inadequate. I purchased a small wooden filing cabinet and rapidly found out that it has a HUGE design flaw. It falls over if both drawers are open at the same time, in other words it is a very cheap filing cabinet. In a perfect world I would have a small office where I could have my computer and a large heavy filing cabinet, I have a large metal filling cabinet but it is Huge and I am sure the Hub’s would object to it being moved into the sunroom as it would no doubt ruin the hardwood floor not to mention just looking really unattractive sitting in the corner. An office with a door that I could close and then apply the out of sight out of mind rule…that might work. Oh wait I don't have an extra room in my house….

2. What's the worst uniform you've ever had to wear for a job?

When I was in high school I worked at Wendy’s. At the time we had to wear these smocks, they were light blue and white stripped. The uniform consisted of a basic white pants and white shirt with the smock over top. It was horribly unattractive. To start I worked at the burger dressing station, the hamburger was assembled and then placed on top of the foil paper and slid in my direction. I would then very quickly add all the required toppings, the trick was to get it done very quickly, I think there was even a set time for how fast this needed to be done, a few second I think. By the end of the night there was usually a fairly thick layer of crud that had, in my hast to assemble the burgers, also would end up all over the front of my smock…YUCK! It was nasty y’all!

3. What was your last kitchen 'mishap'?  This question comes to you courtesy of Betty who blogs over at A Glimpse Into Midlife...everyone go say hi to Betty!
I don’t even have to think abut it.

It was Christmas Brunch of 2011, Click here to read about The Christmas Day Sticky Bun Disaster! Fire in the oven on Christmas morning…NOT a good thing y’all!

4. How do you protect yourself from other people's negativity?

We all know them, those folks who seem to have a perpetual dark cloud hovering overhead. Life is to short to spend it steeped in negative thought. If possible I try to simply steer clear of those folks, however if that is not possible then the next best plan of action is to just pray my way through it. One observation I have noticed is that folks who seem to be stuck in the negative generally are not looking to move past it. For whatever reason their negativity feeds something in their life. They NEED it! Negative attention is still attention, and if attention is required then it will be achieved regardless whether it’s negative or positive.

5. Who in your family do you most resemble (physically)? If you have children, who do people say they favor? Do you agree?

I guess I have to admit that I favor my mom and my grandmother. One of my favorite pictures is of me and my grandmother and we are standing outside and we both have the exact same expression on our faces.
Me & Grandma

What I know for sure is that my children look like me. When you compare my baby pictures with both of my children's baby pictures there is a very strong resemblance.

This has also continued with my granddaughter. She is the spitting image of her Daddy…there is no denying that child whatsoever….she is her daddy’s baby!

My son...1990
IMG_0009

My daughter...1996
 IMG_0008
My Granddaughter...2010
IMG_1256

What do y'all think...I'd call that a spitting image...

6. January 8th is National Bubble Bath Day...will you be celebrating?

That would require actually remembering that it’s National Bubble Bath day at the end of the day…so my answer is probably no.

7.  Some of the 'world's best winter festivals' are - Mardi Gras(New Orleans), Quebec Winter Festival (Canada),Sundance Film Festival (Park City, Utah),  Rio Carnivale(Brazil), Sapporo Snow Festival (Japan), VeniceCarnivale (Italy) and the Harbin Ice Festival (Northern China).  Of those listed (and if cost were not a factor) which would you most like to attend and why?

Honestly…probably none.

I am just not a party girl. Give me a quiet gathering with close friends, a nice pot luck and a good conversation or a fun game and I am a happy girl. The thought of being in a HUGE crowd along with thousands of others just makes my stomach hurt. It holds no appeal to me at all!!!!!!!!!

Laying out on a white sandy beach in Rio on the other had has great appeal, just not the crowds and the craziness that comes along with Carnival, I’ll pass!

8. My random thought... Does this bug you too! “Results Not Typical”, those three small words that they flash across the screen on all the weight loss commercials. It’s that time of year y’all. Ever two seconds we are bombarded with and endless array of commercials all describing how easy it is to loose 20, 30, 40, 50…pounds or more. Only there’s a catch, it's hidden in the small white print that flashes across the screen for two second that tell you that these folks who are dancing across the screen blissfully showing off there size two dress are not typical. It makes me NUTS!

Blessings for a Great Hodgepodge y’all!

Project 365 ~ Week 1

Happy New year Y’all!

Monday, December 31

I was still in recovery mode. That nasty tummy bug was still hanging on. I was past all the unpleasant symptoms but was still not feeling 100%. I spent the day snuggled up under my blanket and gently sipping Gingerale!

IMG_1303

Tuesday, January 1

My family gathered at my house for an early dinner on New Years Day. My three favorite girls, Muffinhead was a bit squirmy but I have to take when I can get’em! Left is my girl, the middle is Muffinhead and on the right is Neicegirl!

IMG_1313

Wednesday, January 2

The only casualty of Christmas…Mufffinhead strikes again!

IMG_1319

As you can guess I was grieving over this family heirloom (NOT) given that I spent a whopping $1.29. I have applied a liberal amount of super glue and we will see if it survives in the attic heat until next year!

IMG_1321

Thursday, January 3

I am in major reshuffling mode here. I am moving things aground and reorganizing. I am trying to better utilize some of the storage space I have available to me. I have a small closet in the guest room that I have now moved all my tablecloths and placemats and napkins to. It’s a bit Martha Stewartish, I am sure she would have used padded wooden hangers with acid free tissue paper between all her freshly pressed linen napkins but my little plastic baby hangers do the trick just fine. Now I can see all my table cloths and not have to pull down a box off a very awkward and high shelf every time I want one!

IMG_1324

Saturday, January 5

I have the best husband y’all. Several weeks ago I was in search of a box. I looked all over the house with no luck. It was one of those situations that happens, you know you have a box somewhere, you remember packing it up, but can you remember what you did with it.

At the time the answer was a big fat NO!

Muffinhead was getting a bit bored with the current reading selection, along with Grandma as well. I knew I had a large box of all the kids olds books. I purposefully packed them up to save for just such an occasion.

Well on Saturday afternoon the Hub’s got back in the attic and went searching for the box….and he found it!

I LOVE that man of mine!

IMG_1326

Next week I continue my reshuffling of stuff. I purchased three new shelving units to put up in the bonus room and I am going to be working on moving some of my lesser used serving pieces up there to free up some of my shelf space. I am super excited about this. I am a simple girl and new shelved just make me happy. Also I think I may have the Hubs talked into a very simple kitchen panty addition that will HUGELY impact my storage in there as well. It just make my little bitty heart sing with the organizational spirit y’all!

Well that’s it for my week! Y’all head over to Momma Fran and link up! It’s a new year y’all!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Happy New Year Y’all!

I am still kinda taking it easy so I am lolling around in my jammies waiting for the girlchild to wake up. It’s our last day of the Christmas break and the Hub’s went back to work this morning so it’s just me and the dog curled up on he sofa right now watching the news and enjoying a morning of rest and doing not a whole lot!!!!!!!

1.  How did you ring in the new year?

Unfortunately it was a very uneventful New Years Eve for us. Thankfully the worst of the symptoms had passed by New Years Eve but I was still recovering from a nasty bout of stomach virus. The Hubs and Girlchild celebrated with Chinese take out and I nursed a ginger ale and had a few sips of chicken noodle soup….woooo whooooo for me!

2.  What is one thing you are looking forward to in 2013?

My goal for the year is to get started on redecorating my master bedroom. I can’t really say I am looking forward to it but I know once I get all the sewing (my lest favorite thing to do) done I will be a happy camper.

I am also looking forward to whatever “New Thing” the Lord brings my way. I am looking for a good bible study, I want to continue working with the clay and my acrylic paints, banging it up in my kitchen and spending as much time with those that I love as humanly possible.

3.  Steven Spielberg is quoted as saying, "All of us every single year, we're a different person.  I don't think we're the same person all our lives."  What say you?

I love a good Spielberg move but I have to disagree with his statement. I think down in our core of who we are we don't change much. Having reared a strong will child I can actually say that his nature was steadfast from the time he was born and remains to this day, There was not a lot to shift going on. I think we all grow as people as we mature. However I think our basic human nature, our character DNA is what it is. We all have a natural bent toward sin and it is a matter of choice to overcome that sinful/self indulgent nature, whatever that may be, the cocktail or the cookie . I know that really simplifies thing down the a very narrow margin and overcoming a sinful habit is very difficult…I get that!

I think we/me should all strive to grown into better more well defined human beings, but as far as being a different person from who we are…not so much!

4. The Pantone color of the year for 2013 is emerald green. Like or dislike? Do you already own something this color?  Will you add something in this shade to your home or wardrobe in 2013?

I don’t think I have anything in that color, the bottom line is that I am just not that into all the fashion stuff. I don’t pay attention to trends, to styles, to fashion designers. Give me a good pair of jeans and a white tee shirt and I am as happy as a clam…beyond that I just don't spend my time pondering new colors or styles.

5.  Speaking of emerald...what's your favorite gemstone?

Well my birthstone is the Topaz, however if I am honest I’m a diamond girl. This being said it’s almost an oxymoron to even say I am a diamond girl. I cant remember the last time I wore ear rings or even a necklace. I do have a few pieces of bling but for the most part they are simple pendants or stud earrings. Here is the problem. I’ve told my husband many times I am just not a fan of fancy shmancy frilly rings or jewelry.

I would wear thins…………………………….but not this

I am just not a foo foo girl y’all!

6. Share a favorite book or movie from 2012.

I can’t remember the last time I actually went to the movies. I’m a Netflix girl.

I think one of my favorites this past year was “This Means War” I love a good romantic comedy. This one did not disappoint.

I have not seen Les Mis yet, and I have not seen Lincoln yet either. Breaking Dawn will be on the agenda as soon as it hit Netflix too. Both the Hubs and I are big James Bond fans so Skyfall is also on the the list as well.

The Next DVD to be enjoyed is the remake of Total Recall..it’s sitting by the television as I type!

The Hubs and I got a few Movie gift cards for Christmas so I feel certain that there will be a movie date in he very near future….

7.  What is something you want to tell yourself at the start of this brand new year?

“Lean into the Lord because almost everyone one else is NUTS!” except for all of y’all that is!

People are just crazy y’all. I am so tired of all the craziness in the world. Nothing makes sense anymore, the evil, the immorality, the violence the political arena, don't get me started in that regard. I want simple, I want safe, I want folks to wake up and turn to the Lord and realize what is really important…just saying!

8.  Well this is the first years in a very long time that I have not gotten all my Christmas decoration down by New Years Day. Amazing what a being sick can do to ya. It’s Wednesday and I still don’t feel 100%, I am muuuuuuch better, my apatite is slowly coming back. Starting the year being sick is no fun! The Christmas decorations ill just have to wait until next weekend.

Well the Girlchild is awake and we have multiple things to get done to prep for a small youth gathering at my house this evening. A last hooray before returning to school celebration consisting of a scary move, frozen pizzas and chocolate chip cookies so got to dash to the store and get the house in order.

Y’all head over to Joyce’s and link up for more WH!

Blessings
