Project 365 ~ Week 30: It was a productive week!

Some weeks ya got it and some weeks ya don’t! This week I had an unexpected boost of energy and several opportunities to put my creative juices to use.

Monday, July 23

Monday I canned a few tomatoes. I really did not have that many, however no one else in my family likes fresh tomatoes….I have wondered for a long time what is wrong with them! But I continue to love them any way regardless of this HUGE flaw in the taste buds! After struggling for several years trying to grow successful tomatoes for what ever reason this year I actually had some limited success. I only had enough tomatoes for four small jars but I have been wanting to try canning tomatoes for a long time and just never had enough to give it a go. It was a bit labor intensive for such a small amount but you work with what ya got sometimes!

Are good friends the best or what!

Skoots1mom scored these FREE chairs the other day in her daily thrifting rounds. YES I said FREE! They were being tossed out of a local restaurant and she asked it she could have them. They were in need of a lot of cleaning and some sanding which we did on Tuesday morning!

Before

It was hot and sweaty work but we got them all cleaned up and ready to paint. I chose a flat black finish to repaint them in.

Y’all I am super excited about this next picture and new opportunity!

I just love how things work out sometimes! During campmeeting we have a morning bible study. One of the ladies that was there is a woman that I have known for a long time. It’s funny how you uncover new things about people that you never knew before when you are in different settings. When I was in high school I experimented with the potters wheel. I loved doing it and have been fascinated with the process for a long time. I could sit and watch a potter work on the wheel and never tire of it!

Well, come to find out that this friend of mine actually has her own studio with a potters wheel and kiln! That just blew me away AND she only lives a few minutes from me! Well we got to talking and I was asking her all kinds of questions, one thing lead to another, the next thing ya know I sitting down at the potters wheel!

Y’all it was so much fun.

You can bet that I will be doing this again!

It takes years of practice and I am looking forward to the process of learning. The language alone will take some getting used to, wedging, centering, slurry, and a myriad of other terms my friend was tossing about that I had no idea what they meant. I just plunged my hands into the clay and went to town!

This small bowl is my very first piece. I am planning to go back next week and spend some more time learning!

Skoots came back over and we got the cushions to the chairs covered!

Saturday, July 28

Friday evening the Hubs got the cushions screwed back in place.

Here is a picture of the end result!

After!

IMG_0270

All total from start to finish I think I spent under $25.00 on spray paint and sandpaper,

and I already had the material for the cushions…LOVE THAT!!!!!!

There is a sixth chair pending but when we took the cushion off we noticed that the chair required a small repair so it is still pending.

Before I even finished my first cup of coffee I was doing all the prep work for supper. One of the Hubs favorite dinners in Pot Roast. I seared this one off and loaded it up with celery, carrot, onion, potato and set it to cook in the crock pot early Saturday morning.

IMG_0267

Well that was my productive week! Wouldn't it be great if all week could be that way!

I hope everyone one is enjoy that last few days of summer. Sound weird to say that but school will be starting soon and then things will be back to normal.

Project 365 ~ Week 29: Campmeeting!

It was campmeeting this week! Hands down my favorite week of the year. We have a week of fellowship, worship and it is by far the best week of the year for me! I may do a post later in the week about this years experience, but for now here are my pictures. I actually have more than one every day!

Woot Woot!

Sunday, July 15

My son and his family came out almost every night. It was so nice to see my granddaughter enjoy all the joys of campmeeting just like mine did when they were little. I can share that I had many moments of Déjà vu as I watched her run around, play in the saw dust and generally have a wonderful time!

Muffinhead gave a demonstration on “How To Eat A Cupcake….”

As we were enjoying the evening worship service the sky was having a worship service of it’s own.

It was shinning down on us and it was absolutely beautiful!

Muffinhead spent the night with me in my cabin on Monday night. It was another milestone. Now that she is bigger and potty trained she is old enough to actually spend the night with grandma during Campmeeting. She slept in a bit on Tuesday morning and I snapped a picture of sleeping beauty while I was enjoying my coffee!

Banana Pudding for desert. The dish was scraped clean in no time flat!

The newest addition to the campground this year is this sweet little butterfly garden. It is up by the children's area. They have planted Butterfly Bushes, Black Eyed Susan's, Purple Coneflowers and several other types of flowers that will attract butterflies. I can’t wait to see how this will look next year.

IMG_0204

The craft protect the children made were these cute little pin wheels. I am going to have to investigate how they made these.

It looks like they are made out of plastic cups! It was just too cute!

Here it this years picture of the arbor!

The campground gets more beautiful each year. Our campground committee and the Campground caretaker are making wonderful improvement on the grounds. Each year I see new plantings to the landscape. In a few years it will be just amazing when all the new planting are well established.

IMG_0208

I am a sucker for herb gardens. We have  very small kitchen on the grounds. I am not sure who planted it but there are now two lovely herb gardens planted outside the front of the kitchen. It is a sweet idea, but in reality not much real cooking goes on in the kitchen. It is mainly used as a storage areas. There is an oven, and refrigerator, ice machine and all there other things necessary to kitchen. The garden is a nice touch and it just makes the kitchen look more quant and inviting!

Red Leaf Basil, Oregano, Rosemary…

Parsley and Chives

IMG_0214

This is one of my favorite trees on the campground. It has this lovely ferny moss looking stuff growing on it!

 IMG_0221IMG_0232

Well I could not restrain myself. I usually also have to make a Wal-Mart run to either replace a fan that has broken or replace an old lawn chair or some other campmeeting necessity. This year I had to get a new cooler, after I found my cooler I made my way over to the lawn and garden center and they had some hanging baskets on sale. Naturally I had to get two to make our new front porch a bit more homey!

IMG_0235100_1038

Saturday, July 21

Y’all I think we can call this a semi success! Last year the corn we planted was a total failure. It was gummy, pasty and inedible!

This year I planted another round of corn, I was able to get the silver queen, which I was not able to find last year. I can share that out of one whole packet of seeds we got about a 1/4 of the packet to sprout and grow. Out of that we harvested about 6 ears of corn. Out of that six ears there were two ears that were fully formed and actually looked like an ear of corn was supposed to look. After cooking it up and having it for supper Saturday evening I can proudly say that it was not half bad. It was not the best sweet corn I have ever had but I was still very good!

I am super excited! Now I am glad I yielded to the Hub’s wishes and planted the corn. I wasn’t going to fool with it given our poor results last year, but he looked so disappointed when I said that so I just went ahead and put some in the ground.

The things ya do for love…..well now I am glad that I did!

IMG_0248

Well that’s it for me this week!

Happy summer, but can you believe that it technically is almost over.

In these parts school will be starting back in about two weeks!

YIKES!

Project 365 ~ Week 28: YIKES only three this week!

I guess it was just not a picture worthy week y’all!

Tuesday, July 10

I had a pound of Italian sausage in the freezer and I was going to make some spaghetti sauce, but then I decided that it just was not a spaghetti kind night! Frittata with Italian sausage, new potato, green peppers, onion and diced fresh tomato with a sprinkle of cheese! It was really good

IMG_0169

Thursday, July 12

I have some new color in the back yard. The crocosmia is blooming! I am surprised. Most bulbs do not bloom the first year you plant them, but this one did!

IMG_0179

Saturday, July 14

Campmeeting starts tomorrow! I was taking a load of our stuff out there and found a wonderful surprise. I had heard about it a few days earlier but I had not seen it until yesterday! Finally after almost ten years the cabin we stay in has a front porch! I am so happy I can hardly stand it y’all! It was an Eagle Project. I am contemplating a special batch of cookies or something top thank they young man!

100_1017

Well that was my week y’all, short and sweet!

Next week should have plenty of photo opportunities.

Campmeeting is my favorite week of the year!

Just riding the wave…

7 dwarves of menapause

Yesterday was one of those days.

If I picked it up I dropped it.

If I walked into a room I forgot what I went into the room for.

I couldn't focus on anything for more than a few moments.

I had a headache all day.

My child said “I heard you the first time!” and it was a supreme battle of self control not to walk over to her and rip her sweet little head right off her neck!

All day long there was a rolling internal dialog of negative, angry, irrational and down right nasty thoughts rolling upon the shores of my life.

Thankfully the girlchild has taken to sequestering herself behind her bedroom door for most of the day. The only thing that draws her out these days is hunger, vanity (one can not neglect ones hair or makeup) and the Taylor Lautner movie she wanted to see that was on the DVR.

At the end of the day, the girlchild was still in her room and the Hubs had retired for the night I found myself alone in my quiet house. I administered a cocktail and breathed in the quiet and submersed myself in my in some mindless television.

On a fruit of the spirit scale of 1 to 9, I praised myself for my ability to exercise some self control by keeping my negative thoughts to myself and the fact that my daughters head is still firmly in place upon her neck.

So I will claim a 1 and be thankful for it!

My score for the day……

Fruit of the Spirit:1

Fruit of Peri-Menopause: 9

Yea for me!

One of my FB friends shared one of my all time favorite movie quotes. It is appropriate for the situation!

“I can't think about that right now. If I do, I'll go crazy. I'll think about that tomorrow.”

Because we all know that Tuhmorrah is another day!

Thank You Scarlett

“For the Fruit of Peri-Menopause is hate, sorrow, chaos, irritation, nastiness, cruelty, distance, hostility and self-pity.”

Galatians 5:22-23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Project 365 ~ Week 27

Sunday, July 1

Sunday evening after dinner we were enjoying an DVD when we were interrupted by what we thought was the roof coming down upon our heads.

Hail, big hail to be exact! The Hubs was concerned because it was so big it was bouncing up off the ground and smashing into the windows with such force we thought one might shatter.

IMG_0145 IMG_0146

Thankfully no windows were broken and the sudden storm only last about 15 to 20 minutes!

Monday, July 2

Well I hate to be a Debbie Downer but Cannoli’s are just not my thing! I was not impressed with the one I had in New York. That left me wondering what all the fuss was about! I did my usually Food Network search and found a few recipes. I thought I would give it a try to see if maybe I could improve upon my first experience.

First I decided to forgo the lengthy process of making the cookie, copious steps were involved as well as needing some specialized cannoli forms which I do not have, not to mention deep fat frying so I opted on purchasing the cookie at the grocery store!

Most of the recipe I found all had a base of ricotta cheese and then there was some sweetened whipped cream folded in. I was not impressed with the cookie, it was a bit more flavorful than the one I had in New York but not by much. The cream filling was much better, however I was not impressed with the texture. It still retained the curd-ish texture of the ricotta cheese which was not the most mouth satisfying experience. It felt kind of lumpy and a bit gritty, not something I associate with a rich creamy desert if ya know what I mean. Maybe it’s one of those experience you have to grow up loving to appreciate, for me not so much!

They look good at least!

IMG_0151

Oh well live and learn, this one will not be making another appearance. The general consensus from the Hubs and the Girlchild were the same as well. It was a three thumbs down across the board!

If you are Italian send me a recipe or convince me of the error of my ways.

Tuesday, July 3

Tuesday was Jamaican day. I borrowed this picture from Skoots1mom, the sweet lady standing next to me in the picture is from the island of Jamaica. She had invited all of the Prayer Shawl group over to her house for a Jamaican meal. Who would turn that down?

Not me for sure.

Fried plantains, Johnny Cakes, boiled green banana’s, curry chicken, cabbage and carrots, rice and peas, corn bread, ackee and greens (I don’t remember what they were called but it started with an M, they were very much like kale or collard greens)

IMG_0154IMG_0152

Y’all it was delicious! I was a bit cautions when I saw the boiled green bananas but they were the same texture and flavor as a potato and very good! I think my favorite was the Ackee! But the plantains were super good too!

No picture on Wednesday, July 4, bummer.

We were invited to a friends house for burgers on the grill and we were enjoying good fellowship and conversation and I never gave my camera a second thought!

Thursday, July 5

I am finally getting some success in the tomato department. I am reaping a HUGE harvest in the cherry tomato department, but I am also starting to get some BIG ones too!

IMG_0156

The girlchild has made a tradition of carving out time to spend with her Aunt each summer. When we lived in Lawrenceville they lived five minutes down the road. Now they live an hour plus away so the DD does not get to see her aunt and cousins very often. We met for lunch at a Mexican restaurant and made the hand off at a mid point for both of us.

Photo07051204

Thursday evening is my normal Girl’s Group and it was about a billion degrees outside so I stopped at Sonic for a Lime Slushy!

It hit the spot.

100_1005

Friday, July 6

We bought this small point and shoot for the Girlchild when she made her last mission trip. She whined and complained about having to use her ancient camera so we caved and got her this cute little red number. Since the addition of her new phone which takes really good pictures this cute little camera has been collection dust in her room! Well no more. I confiscated it and it has now found a new home in my purse! I have been yearning for a small point and shoot for a long time. My new phone takes really awful pictures and I hate that! I love my big camera but it is BIG and HEAVY and not good for carrying around in the purse!

Plus it has a really cool feature of downloading pictures right to facebook….love that!

IMG_0159

Since the Girlchild was away Mom and Dad decided to play!

Date Night at the Olive Garden. They are running a Two for $25.00, it a great deal and the food was wonderful!!!!!

100_1006100_1009100_1010

Saturday, July 7

The Goldfinch joined me for breakfast again! I think this is my favorite visitor to the backyard, except for the hummingbird. I just love the bright yellow burst of color. He fits right in amongst the colorful blossoms in the container on my patio!

IMG_0168_1 - edit

Well that does it for me this week! I hope everyone is keeping cool and out of this monster heat we have been having.

Blessings
