Random Dozen

1. Please share one memory of your high school graduation.

I had a red cap and gown, I remember we had the commencement ceremonies at the football stadium. It was hot, but beyond that I don’t remember much else!

Back in the dark ages they did not do all the hoopla at graduation that they do now. Even if they did do hoopla my mom could not have afforded to do all the hoopla! I think we may have sent out invitations, but there was no senior locker decoration, senior week, they did not put signs in the front yard or decorate cars. The only picture we had taken was the one done by the school with the navy blue velvet drape across the shoulder. I just looked for that picture it in my albums and could not find it, my mom may have it. I did find the above photo, just look at the enthusiasm in that face!  They did not do the multiple wardrobe changes at a professional photography studio that most parents do now. I do remember getting a senior ring, which in hindsight was a total waist of my money because I think I only wore it a few times and now it is in my jewelry box collecting dust!

I was just glad to be past high school, it was not one of my memorable experiences.


2. What is one "emergency use" item you keep in your vehicle at all times?

I think there is a flash light in my glove box, and a tire gage.  I have contemplated getting one of those window breakers but since shopping is my all time favorite thing to do (NOT) I do not have one. I do keep a blanket and a pillow as well.


3. In your region, do you celebrate graduation open houses? Addendum: (If so,) how many open houses/bridal showers/weddings are on your upcoming events calendar?

I have a wedding this weekend and a graduation open house next weekend.


4. Tell me one truth you believe about motherhood.

It is the source of my greatest joy and my deepest sorrows!


5. What was the last thing you broke?

My grandmothers sugar bowl. I was furious with myself and spoke a few loud profane words when it hit the floor. Thankfully the top was the only thing broken. I think with a few drops of super glue it can be restored to one piece. I have it in the china cabinet out of harms way until I can find the time to try and fix it!


6. On average, how many pieces of junk mail do you receive daily?

Way to many! I just counted yesterdays stack and there were eight pieces of mail, flyers, sales catalogues, credit card solicitations, etc. It is just to ridiculous. And yes I did call and put my name on the no call list which was supposed to stop all the phone calls as well as unwanted junk mail, not happening!


7. Do you like to shop by catalog?

Not really, but it is a preferable option to actually going shopping.  I have used it from time to time. I do a lot of shopping for books and Christmas shopping online as well!


8. Is lawn maintenance at your house a "his job," a "her job" or "his/her job" or "that's why we have teenagers" job?

It’s a his and her job. Sometime I will get out and help the hubs mow the lawn while he does the edging. He does the edging because I don't have the upper body strength to hold the big heavy edger, plus it scares me a bit, I am always afraid I am going to break it or whack a toe off!


9. Which room would you like to redecorate in your home?

My master bed room. It is a black hole of nothingness!  I have not done anything to it since we moved into this house four years ago. I did finally buy some table cloths for the round decorative tables that sit on either side of the bed a few months ago. Up until then they were just sitting naked on either side of the bed. Very attractive!


10. Do you read a newspaper regularly, or do you read most of your news on line?

I do not get the daily paper. Most of my news comes from listening to talk/news radio in the car or the evening news.


11. Do you believe everything happens for a reason?

I think that there are some things that happen for a reason and then there are other things that are just random occurrences. I think continued bad behavior and certain l life style choices will untimely have negative consequences in ones life. I also believe that there are things that happen that defy explanation.

What I do believe with all my heart its that God can use all situation for His glory!

GE 50:19 But Joseph said to them, "Don't be afraid. Am I in the place of God? 20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. 21 So then, don't be afraid. I will provide for you and your children." And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them.


12. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?

There are times when things in life go according to plan, when all is right with the world and things will be just right! My goal is to have the presence of mind to recognize those moments of perfection and bask in them. To thank God for the gift of whatever it is that is bringing joy into my life or the lives of the ones I love.  

Being the age I am I have also come to understand that perfection will be achieved when I’m resting in the arms of Jesus. I find that I don’t worry a lot about my miss steps or my foul up’s at least I try not to, they happen far to often. I think I am more concerned with striving to do what is right, even thought I may fail a lot of the time. My desire to “want” to do the right thing is there. It motivates me to continually seek God’s direction.

PHP 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me--put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Isn't it the truth about graduations!? Honestly... they've gone all crazy! But... our kids probably REMEMBER theirs better than we remember ours! I'm proud to say I did NOT buy a class ring... I was momentarily tempted, I think... but knew that after senior year I would never wear it! Only one of my kids got one... she just HAD to have it.

Do not feel bad about your Master bedroom! WE have lived in our house for 23 years - and I STILL haven't decorated ours! It's the ONLY room in the house that has never been decorated even once... *sigh*... I've given up.
